I don't want more of everything. I just want a sturdy vehicle that isn't too big. Seeing that old Blazer reminded me that there used to be vehicles like that.

A few years ago when they released that puny crossover "Blazer" that was a disappointment to everyone. I wonder how many they actually sold. I can't recall ever seeing one on the road.

Completely agree. Personally I wish the 6th Gen to be smaller. Smaller fits on trails better, is lighter and more nimble, less air drag and better for fuel efficiency.

4R has grown to the size that it consumed the land cruiser now. Over 15 inches in length since the early days. Assuming it grows 2 in longer than the next generation, it'll then be the same chassis as the Land Cruiser. Which would then make a lot of sense why they dropped the land cruiser from North America.
I'd love to see a smaller bof SUV from Toyota again. Like a Fortuner. Toyota has talked about a slot in their lineup for a body on frame SUV the size of a RAV4. There's been discussion on and off adding one for the USA market. But nothing has ever come of it.
Have to remember though that Toyota was planning on phasing out body on frame SUVs and the fifth gen would have been the last of the 4 runners for the United States. Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz in 2012 said "by 2025, I think one can assume that most of the frame-based vehicles will be gone."
And then 5 years later in 2017, same guy, said this "There’s room for an authentic small off-road SUV" "there is room on the lower end, in terms of price or authenticity, for an off-road, frame-based SUV... This would be for people going outdoors, but truly going offroad. This would not be all-wheel-drive for safety, this would be four-wheel-drive with ground clearance.”

I might be if they didn't go CVT. Even now I consider a base manual Impreza, but I'm not sure I could live with a manual. I've never driven stick.

they should bring back the isuzu rodeo. it came in a v6 too. it would really need to be toyota to bring back this japanese vehicle and they probably wouldn't want anything taking away sales from their 4 runners and the smaller rav4s. the rodeo was a body on frame though and capable offroader.
is it the beard? the flannel shirt?

I learned to drive on a stick, but didn't drive one for decades after that. When it came time for my wife and I to buy our Taco back in 2017, the only one available in the package and color we wanted was a manual. It was my favorite truck I've owned, over an '02 4Runner and '09 Taco. Manual is absolutely a blast to drive, and makes you feel like you're actually driving an off-road capable vehicle. Unfortunately, a 4Runner will be far more useful for my current needs, so I'm trading the Taco in on a 2022 ORP. I am very bummed that 4Runners aren't offered in a MT. I'll miss it a lot.

wow I didn't know that. now I do! honda sells a passport in canada, but it's not body on frame, it must have been the old passports, maybe they weren't available in Canada?
Yeah, Honda severed the Isuzu rebadging relationship I think some time around 2003 when the Passport was discontinued and their SUV platform became a unibody Pilot.
