The answer is about 500 yards.

What is "the distance my 2015 TRD Pro will travel after the dealership forgets to put oil back in after its second oil change," Alex.

So this is the BS I've been dealing with today. I've been offered a new engine replacement and I wanted to get your input on the situation. Any advice or commiseration is appreciated.

New engine, plus some type of extended warranty that covers the entire vehicle. Give them a chance to make it right. If they don't take care of you, I'm sure Toyota corporate would like to know.

Serious question - do you trust them to handle the engine replacement if they can't handle a simple oil change?

That's about the level of competence I've come to expect from some Toyota dealers.

What sucks is when they ruin your truck, you have limited recourse.

This is not the first or last time this story will be told.

Dealer service departments (especially the lube techs) sure can do some damage.... I know it is always the bad stories you get here... but they sure are common.

Do the 5th gens have an oil level light...? You think they would have clued into that.

Sorry for your bad luck. It's just a truck and can be fixed.

Must be a special feature on the Pro...

For real that sucks man, I'm not sure if I would trust them with a new engine as well after that but I don't think you have much choice.

toyota corporate won't care. their minimum-wage phone lackeys will just refer you to a dealer.

It's 50/50, Lube Techs aren't always representative of the Dealer's Technician's capability... but it doesn't mean their Tech side can't be bad either. :/

Make sure it is a NEW engine and not an LKQ replacement.

Unfortunately you can't buy or get a new complete motor from Toyota, only a couple time in my 15 years working with them did I ever see a complete crate motor and those are pulled straight from assembly line, they were for warranty replacements. This wil be paid by dealer so they likely won't and can't go that route.

They will likely tear it down and replace what they find damaged which sucks as everything in there will have taken damage event if it's not visually aparent ..

Crappy situation

1) new motor. Don't get it rebuilt.
2) loaner luxury vehicle
3) clear your warranty to 0 days and then extend the warranty

I don't think that's too much to ask for. I'm due for my oil change really soon and it scares me that these guys have a lot of power to **** your ride up.

That's true, the best they can do is a long block. But that will mean the heads and such will need to be transferred over and so on; Toyota is a bit bad when it comes to crate engines...

Can't even do that, short block assembly only. Heads, cams, lash adjusters, valves, vvti gears, timing chains, tensioners, acuators etc are all a la carte.

The new engines get ugly when they go wrong, but they rarely do, which is why there is no reason to have a crate motor program.

You're right I meant Short Block. Sad we can't even get a Long Block from the factory...

True, but then it is at least logged, and there is a record of the issue. Plus for the dealership, they are tracked on these types of issues and customer service. If they are slacking on these types of issues it affects the vehicles they are allotted and all types of things. On the surveys you get, if they get anything less than 100% it's a fail.
