The only problem I have with not allowing gays to marry is the fact that they do not receive the same benefits as hetero couples that do marry. I was recently married. Neither myself nor my wife have anything to do with organized religion. We weren't married in a church, didn't have a religious ceremony, and do not plan on using our marriage to get closer to any higher power. What makes this any more acceptable than a gay couple who feel the same way about one another? Whats the excuse for allowing people to marry 5, 6, or 7 times? Where does God say that is ok? You can't let some people "sin", and others not.
We love each other, and want to spend the rest of our lives together. If one of us passes, the other will receive whatever we have at that time. What makes our marriage any different than a same sex couple who share the same feeelings?
If you want to call it a civil union, go ahead...but everyone should have the same rights and benefits...straits, gays, whatever. Every person in this country should have the right to spend the rest of their lives with the person they love, pay appropriate taxes, and receive the same benefits. These days, marriage is just a word that religious groups use to make themselves feel better. Until people have to prove that they are marrying for religious reasons, marriage should be open to anyone.

I agree with you. This is one time where the state feels compelled to not be separate from the church. What's up with that? Why do I need to get a marriage license from uncle Sam? The "marriage" should remain in the church. If you wnat a civil union between you and a girl, or guy and want the same rights as a married couple, I see no problem with that. The lawmakers can change the laws to include them in the tax code. Why don't they. But "Marriage" is a religious union. Again, the Gay activists are trying to destroy the family by coopting the language. Its not about equal rights. Its about tearing down America into their version of Amerika.

If you and your girl want a civil union and have no interest in religion, have a judge officiate the union and be done with it. And if two gay people want to pass their estate to one anther on their passing I see no reason they shouldn't have that right. That said, I see no reason why there is a Death tax at all. All that money had been taxed when it was originally earned. Just because I die, I have to pay 50% to the government? How is that fair? Follow the money and you'll get all your answers. The Gay marriage issue is not what it seems on its face.

Its easy for girls like the one in the video AND Dr. Coffee to talk about guns rights or citizens rights. Easy to claim people need to "stand up for their rights" ...

But they have never served in the military or risked anything for their county.

If there was a draft they'd probably dodge it like Cheney or Romney did.

Hmm, to be honest, the arrogance of a few military folks such as Brian above makes me respect the profession less and less everyday. I don't go on a CAR forum to show people how many lives i save or what difference i have made in people's lives with my profession...because, well, that would be arrogant and stupid. Nor do i put my title at the end of a post. That would be even more obnoxious.

Brian, i know you from this forum. But, honestly, i would not want to know you in real life if you're this much of an arse. The repeated chest pounding proclamation of your past experience (a few years worth) on this car forum is getting real old. You're right...i don't serve the military at this time. But, you will be right to assume that IF my country needs me, then i would serve my country as best as i can. And you will also be right that until that day comes, i will serve my country (and citizens) the best i can in my own at times honorable profession. Does this mean that i cannot "claim people need to "stand up for their rights" ..."??? I don't do this...but it also does not mean that i cannot do this simply because i am not part of the US military.

You may find this surprising...but there are other professions that help people a great deal and require great deal of commitment...often times, lifetime, not just a few years. This is not just about my profession, but this applies to other professions that require continuous sacrifices and commitment.

I would suggest that you tone down on your arrogance just a tad and realize that the world is bigger than you are. Personally, i have never met a military person that i have not respected...until now. And i have never met a military person that does not show the same respect to another professional. Maybe i am naive....

(This is actually the FIRST time in 10 years on this forum that i have made a negative comment about a military member.)
