The best 3" of lift

I will be putting a lift on my 06' in June and trying to figure out the best option to go with.

Money is pretty well not an issue. I am leaning toward the Toytec at the moment but want to make sure I am getting the best lift available.

I do 90% of my driving on the highway so ride quality is number one.

I also need to also start thinking about which tires I will be going with.

Are you thinking of going with coil spacers? Lift springs and shocks? Coilovers? Three different options, 3 very different price ranges.

If money is not much of an issue I love my Fox 2.5 Resi Coilovers with Camburg Uniball UCA's.

And there are many coilovers that are on a different level from Toytecs.... Rad Flo from Overland Warehouse, Icon, King's, 2.5 SAW's etc....

Toytec are great values but ultimately they are non-rebuildable 2.0 shocks.

I have a 04 runner and I went with the Ready Lift 3" front and 2" rear. I still have my factory ride. This is a top spacer type lift and installed it myself in about 4 hours. No regrets.

Out of curiosity, how do the Toytec, Icon, and Radflo measure up to each other? ICON's kit, is about a couple hundred more than the Toytec, but they seen really good, but the while multiple stages thing gets confusing fast.

How well do they do at freeway speed and urban driving?

Icon and Radflo are similar. I like Radflo (specifically the ones sourced by Overland Warehouse) because they custom valved the coilovers for a 4Runner, they provide great customer service and the guys who own it are very active in the 4Runner community (and very fun to wheel with).

Toytecs are not rebuildable and you can not mess with their valving.

As for ride, my truck has none of these setups but I hear they all ride great on road. The only one I would stay away from due to poor ride is Sway-A-Way.

I have to admit it annoys me that these kits don't bother throwing in the adjusting wrench... you'd think if you're gonna drop 1.2k+ you could at least get the wrench for free...

The Radflo's on the OW website look nice.

I love my Cornfed 3/2 suspension lift. It looks awesome and the ride is the same as it was prior to the lift. If you drive mostly on road it is a great way to go. If you want to IMPROVE the stock ride, look at Bilstein shocks and FJ springs. You will definitely have to put more cash into that. My Cornfed kit was $220.

Actually when i picked up my Icon's they threw in a couple of wrenches for free. I don't know if it was a mistake but I know i didn't pay for either one. I think it just depends on who you go through :shrug:

Love my Overland Warehouse Radflo 2.5 Kit. My 4runner is a daily driver and I have had the suspension on it for about 6 months with no complaints. Does really well in the dirt too. Cant wait for the 5/1 run.

I have the radflow 2.5" rebuildable front coil overs with rear springs and icon shocks. It was I think about $1500. I love it, it rides and handles very well in town and at freeway speeds. Very nice off road also. It came with a couple wrenches for adjusting also.

if he is driving mostly highway and its a dd then toytec ultimate is your best bet as the coilovers dont need maintenance

Simple question, why is it bad that the Toytecs arent rebuildable? I wouldnt want to have to take my shocks out again to rebuild them every so often. Im sure theres a good reason why, but im just curious.

Depends. Shocks wear out. You blow shocks (I have blown two off roading). You may want to revalve the shocks if you change a lot on your truck (add bumpers, winch, duel batt etc..). It just allows you more flexibility.

I am glad all my shocks are rebuildable, esp the rears. Fronts are a pain to switch out, but the backs are not bad at all.

No one has added anything about ICON stage 2 as a DD. Does anyone have a suggestion for this doing 80 Highway /20 Off Road

I've run the ICON stage 2 on my daily driver for over 2 years now with 50+ miles per day and around 20k miles per year. ICON's are so much better than stock xreas and provides a firm but not harsh ride. Corners well, stays flat around wide sweeping turns and eliminates nose dives during hard braking. It also soaks up the smaller bumps and provides a much more stable feeling truck on and off road.

If you go with any high quality coilover system you won't regret it.

Id like to see documents stating they are custome valved for the 4runner
