Yes, there is wheeling in Death Valley and it's on my bucket list. I think California may have us beat in sheer number of trails and wheeling regions, and Colorado may too.
But between the scenic San Rafael Swell, the slickrock in and around Moab and the Canyonlands, and the truly hardcore trails down in Saint George, I don't think any state can claim to have better wheeling than Utah.

I wish I could go exploring off road in death valley...a few months ago I was out there with a rental Camry and hit all the scenic points in death valley, the views were simply amazing. I can only imagine how much more fun it is exploring the off road trails. Yes I did take the Camry on a few unpaved roads while I was there, and no the results were not pretty

Don't know if you've checked this place out yet SMORR, Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch - Home Went last month and had a good time. Over 940 acres to wheel on. Really nice camp ground to. Should get some members together for a trip sometime.

I'd have to go with Colorado and Utah, too--as one other put it, that's why I keep considering Grand Junction, CO as my future destination, because it's right near the border of the two. Mountains on one side, canyons on the other--sounds like bliss to me!

They're all great as long as we can use them!
I will offer another biased opinion towards Utah. It has Moab, San Rafael Swell, Uintahs, Sand Hollow, Moab, Delta Sand Dunes, UTBDR, Cedar City, Moab, Richfield, etc.
The only problem is all the +*^$'s that are lobbying to get the trails shut down or heavily restricted. They have way too much time on their hands to ruin others day.
From what I have heard CO is the most off road friendly state. Apparently as long as the trails are being used they won't or can't be shut down (true?). If that is the case it is pretty awesome. Utah seems to have the opposite mentality. God made this place for us to use it and no one can do that without the resources and capabilities that our 4WDs offer us.
Sorry for the rant but be sure to take your kids out so they can learn to appreciate what all of our states have to offer and let's make sure that they can enjoy it as well as their kids, etc, etc.

I was pissed when we went to Moab a few years ago to find out some land development company bought the land at loins back. Trying to make it a sub division from what a local told me. I was also upset when Tellico got shut down. Never got the chance to wheel there either. Same thing is happening right now in Cape Hatteras NC. My vote goes to Colorado and Utah as well. Have not had a chance to wheel Colorado but it looks amazing.

Here's a vote for my great state. California has by far thee most diverse off-roading available in the US. Yes Utah has Moab and Colorado has the Rockies and they are the ONLY legit rivals to CA. But they don't have the diversity. Our mountains are taller, our deserts are hotter, our beaches are... nevermind. We got the Sierras: Rubicon, Fordyce, Dusy-Ershim, Wheelers Ridge, etc.etc.etc. The deserts; Death Valley, Mojave Road, Glamis, Dumont Dunes, Johnson Valley(home of KOH) and the gateway to Baja. John Bull, Dishpan Springs, Holcomb Valley in Socal are brutal. Pismo Beach. It just goes on forever... And that's with all the eco-Nazis trying to restrict access.
