The Build Thread of my Rocky !!!

Yeah, I wasn't sure what the rules are there. I (thankfully) live in the only major urbanized county in Texas that has not fallen into EPA non compliance and therefore, we don't have smog tests. I'm sure that's gonna change eventually though. I still think they look at our exhaust to make sure we have cats during our yearly inspection. I guess California's different?

You still have cats with this, just one pair instead of two. The second pair is removed with this solution. They only help during start up. As long as there's no tail pipe sniffer and a truly cold start you should be good to go.

Think about it...the second set of O2 sensors is BEFORE the second set of cats :-)

EDIT: This should apply anywhere in the great state of Texas. ;-)

Thanks for the updates! Can you do a quick summary post? Like started at X HP and torque stock. Added Y component and got Z HP and torque. I will be glad to permalink that post to one of the stickies. Thanks again!

Already did ... modified my first post... Unless you want a post by itself ... If so I'll do that when I dyno again monday morning and post the update from the y pipe

Which Flowmaster were you running before? I'm running a 70 series at the moment.

I had the super 50

Just edit your first post Monday. You are the only one that has actual data on your mods so we need to make it accessible for others. Again I for one appreciate it.

interested to see if you regain anything with the URD. Comparative with your setup, id probably just regear and call it a day. Any plans for that?

really appreciate your commitment to documenting "before and after" for these mods. interested to see the URD y-pipe results.

and man, that chemical overspray was truly a blessing in disguise—your matte paint job is absolutely stunning.

Thanks for these updates man. It's cool that you are able to share the information from the mods you've done with dyno results.

I really dig the Y Pipe upgrade. My armor plates cover that bit up now, but I really dig the design of this as that hanging bit of pipe was always dumb.

I put the Y pipe on my rig. I noticed one of my main points of contact was the very back of my transfer case skid cross brace.. during breakover. But it could not be raised any because of the crossover pipe.

Now, with the Y pipe, I can raise my T-case skid up about 1". All the skids can now be even with the transmission crossmember. This will help breakover angle quite a bit. I'm about to go out and re-weld it up right now. Unfortunately, I took no before pics.

Also, there seems to be a decent gain in power... I'm uploading a quick video I did last night with the rear window down.. It shows 0-60.. It's a horrible video, but might give some perspective on the sound.... The truck gets up and goes... nothing spectacular at all but it has some balls even with the big heavy MTRs on it.

How much louder is it since you've swapped the rear cats for the straight y-pipe? Must be noticeable for sure, right?

I guess you can ask RCI for a skid plate that have the skid plate up 1" higher or closer to the frame.

I finally got some good freeway range. 3000rpm to redline pulls really nice. Before I knew it I was doing about 100mph.

With the 12586 muffler it's still quiet. Just a tad bit more drone cruising barely noticeable; even at freeway speeds. Its a whole lot louder when you go WOT though...

Any pics from the side so we can see if you gained any ground clearance?

Here is a quick vid of mine with the rear window down...

She still gets to 60 somewhere withing 7 seconds with the heavy MTRs and all the armor on. The gears help keep it in the power band... I'm curious to see how it would feel with stock tires on it. Peel off the armor (slider, skids, tube bumper...) and it might actually feel quick.

I'm getting a little vibration in certain situations in the back. It's real close to the heat shielding over the axle and I think that is what the problem is. It only happens once in a while and I may have resolved it today with some adjustments.

I also moved my transfer skid plate up about 1" today. It was a PITA. I had to notch the brace to clear the T-Case and there was also some issues clearing the brake lines. But definitely got a little more break over angle. All the skids no3 pretty much line up with the cross member with no spacers.... (cat braces removed...)

I'm not getting any kind of vibrations. Then again I don't have skids yet.

I'm kinda excited to see how these turn out on the dyno. Definitely feel a difference in power. She moves alot easier and it takes alot less gas pedal to move around.

And I got about 19mpg today on my 36mile trip doing about 70 to 75mph avg. Before I was only able to muster 17.5mpg. So hopes are high I might get better mileage out of this mod. But won't know for sure till my next tank. Because this tank is with dyno runs and me not being able to keep my foot off the throttle.

very very disappointed with this dyno run ...

return of power was 4hp & 1ft lb of torque.

I might re do another dyno run after doing an oil change in a week or two... Just to verify the dyno reading...

but I'm very very disappointed with the hp to dollar ratio...

maybe if I can borrow a set of stockies to dyno with ... would be awesome

Again thanks for updating! When you update your OP can you put the date?

Sorry the mods didn't work out for more power. Just think what you would have if you went with 225/80/17's! It would be ugly but it would run!
