the discount tire direct eBay discount is on again!

My local discount tire matched ebay deal. Bought level 8 mk 6 with 0 offset. Still mulling over whether I should go ahead and buy 285/75/r26 BFG KO2 or wait for a few more years as my 265/70/R16 Nitto terra grapplers AT only have 15k on them and I have replacement certificates for them through discount tire. Selling them on craigslist will not fetch me even $200.

And, I am not 100% sure if I should get 285/75 or 265/75. I don't see myself regearing, so maybe I need to stick with 265/75. But 33's look so nice.

If you get them shipped off ebay you wouldn't be charged sales tax as long as you're not in the same state they are shipping from. Did they match the online price, then add sales tax to that? Or was the final out the door cost with sales tax the exact same as buying online with no sales tax?

I paid about ~$34 in sales tax, but they reduced installation, mounting, and balancing from $64 to $40.

The main reason I decided to buy at local discount tire because tomorrow if I run into any issues with the wheels, I have a recourse. IMO- Not worth the hassle to buy online if savings are not substantial.

I have nothing against Mom & Pop shops, at all! But when you get 4 tires for $150-$200 cheaper than the local tire shop; you bring it to your local mechanic who you already have a relationship with & he'll mount & balance for you & no charge for stems & weights.

Well I have been crunching numbers. On the surface it seems like $100 off is a lot, but it's working out different than I expected, all things considered.

I've been working to build a relationship with my local tire shop and now that they are getting to know me, I've been getting really good treatment there. So there is that to keep in mind.

I called and got their quote and broke it down. Given I still have to pay for mounting and balancing, and they give me a free alignment with a set of tires I don't get bringing my own (and I always get with new tires), if I can still get the $70 mail in rebate from Cooper it came down to a grand difference of:

+$36.88

I'm not sure I got tax included in there right, but basing it off the final OTD price with just the tires pulled out to compare against this deal, I think it's pretty accurate.

Plus I get free rotations from them if I get tires there. So what, I can do that myself right, but I can't balance them myself.....so then it starts to be nice to be able to drop by and have them rotate and balance them for no charge when I need it. If I don't buy from them I don't get that.

So, is it such a great deal if we are only talking $40 more vs. a Mom and Pop shop, knowing them if I say the $30 or so is hanging me up they would knock that off.

Last sale I went with 305/70r16. The FAT 33. I loved them. They had a footprint of a 35 but on a 33" tall. I miss them. They looked so good when new.

Haha! Yeah, those look pretty sweet for sure. I am not running a BL, so I am sure that might cause some clearance headaches. Lol. I should be able to clear 285s without a BL and proper adjustment of my SPC Light Racing UCAs, I would think anyway. Need to do more research. I'd rather not have to mess with a BL if possible. I already have my sliders welded on.

Interesting. I don't hear much about 255/75/17s. If I had it to do again, I might have gone for 17" wheels seeing that the industry seems to be trending that direction.

Is it just me, or have the prices gone up a good bit? The Duratracs I got a couple years ago are now $50 more a pair than they were. They also increased the discount threshold by $50.

Great... I've been waiting for this to happen again. And now that it's here, my finger will be hovering over the buy it now option as I agonize about pulling the trigger on a new set. Debating on going up to 285s, or to keep life simple with 265/75/16s.

Ugh... I will thinking about this for the foreseeable future. LOL.

Now I am imagining a new Savage swing out bumper on my rig.... hahaha.

Your not the only one having that debate. I'm leaning heavily towards 265/75/r16. I'm not planning on regearing anytime soon. The 285's may look better but performance wise the 265's will drive better. I drive my truck a lot more then I look at it. The extra 1/2" of clearance with the 285's isn't worth it to me. I think. Lol

I got some 265/75/16 Falken M/Ts E load put on a couple of weeks ago at Discount Tire, i got the $75.00 rebate, and they gave me $45.00 a piece for my old weather cracked 7 or 8 yr. old Grabber 2s. I only have a couple hundred miles on them, but i really like them so far, very good road manners, and great in the dirt.

Are you looking at the ebay store or discount tire's main site? They ebay store prices are slightly higher. I'm guessing that's to offset their "free shipping". Nothing is really free.

The prices on discount tires main site are lower than what is shown on ebay.

Ebay store. I ordered the 265/75/16 E load Duratracs that were $408/pair with free shipping. The discount was $100 off an order of $400+, so I bought two pairs instead of a set of four so I could use the discount twice. Combined with the Goodyear rebate at the time, I had a set of four on my front porch for ~$600. With their current prices, those same tires would now cost me ~$700. Disappointing, but I understand sometimes it's necessary.

Agreed, you have to crunch the #'s. They also upped the discount from $400 to $450. So instead of saving $80 now you're only saving $30. You can also save more by buying a more expensive tire that you can split into two orders of $450. You can save $200 instead of $100 like when I bought my 33" Hankooks.
I'm looking at Coopers for my car & they have different rebates. $50, $70 & $100. I'm looking at higher end tires to get the $100 rebate. I can get a nice performance tire for $30 (for all 4) more than a cheap touring tire.
Different shops by me charge anywhere from 12 to $20 per tire for mount & balance. But lifetime alignments & rotations are very cool.

Good year in the last month alone has had a 10% price increase. and more for the last few years. Cost of goods goes up as the cost to make it goes up.

Now... let's see if the rub with my Kings, SPC Light Racing UCAs, and Pro Comp wheels.
