Noob here, just bought a 3rd gen 4runner. And I'm already regretting it, lol.
I really like it overall but I am having some troubles. Day after I got it the P0136 code pops up. So I replaced the downstream O2 sensor, it comes right back. My assumption is that it's either a bad sensor (again), a short in the circuit (should be fun to find), or a bad cat. The truck has 153,000 miles on it, would a bad cat be par for the course at this point?
A couple other odd things. This is a 2002, Sport edition, with all the electronic goodies that they added towards the end of the run. But when I went to have the key copied it was a standard key, no chip. Does that make sense? Also the engine doesn't have a serpentine belt, it's three separate belts. Again, curiously old school for a 2002. Then I notice that the passenger side door and front fender are a different color from the rest of the truck. Not totally different color, just a shade off, but from a distance it's obvious. I'm hoping that was just body damage.
Also, I'm guessing it had the pink milkshake issue at some point. The transmission shifts great, a little too great for a truck this old. And I have a separate transmission cooler in front of the radiator. So, yeah, all this stuff adds up to make me wonder if I have a franken-truck that was damaged one way or another and pieced back together with various parts. I'm glad I got a good deal on it. It drives and runs fine, gas mileage is about what I'd expect, 16 - 17 with a mix of around town and highway.
One last thing, I did the DRL delete mod. Cut the black/yellow wire. It did indeed disable the DRLs, but now the front marker lights don't work. I don't actually know if they worked before, didn't notice, but just wondering if cutting that one wire could affect those lights? I'm talking about the ones on the corners, right next to the headlights. The turn signals lower on the bumper still work. I have not checked the bulbs yet, seemed odd they would both be blown though.
Anyway, thanks for any advice you guys can give.
