The Effects of Pot

Point 2; the REAL risk of pot being legal. Competition. Lets us all pretend that pot is legal, and it is two years into the future. Cartel no longer supplying it, so the means of distribution are relatively civil. But now you have thousands of Pot farmers trying to sell the general public weed, but they all want to have the sellers edge, so they start making custom blends of pot to give better and longer highs. before long, pot is no longer a natural drug for recreational use, it is a hybrid designer herbal drug. Legislation cannot keep pot safe to use.

Anyone on here who has smoked pot can attest that there is common cheap pot and expensive hybrid pot that can really mess you up. If pot becomes legal to grow and cheaper to buy these hybrids are going to make a much harder impact on a persons ability to function normally. Then arise people baked driving/dieing/and killing on the roads.....now we have an all new enemy on our already dangerous highways

I can see where you're coming from, but you're a little late to the game. We already have numerous cross pollinated species of the original herb that is much stronger. In fact, when I smoked, that is all I would smoke. I was a bit of a snob that way.

The different strands provide different "highs" depending on what you are looking for. The farmers are much more in tune with the biology of it and can control what they are producing to a point where you can have a mellow high or an active high. A body buzz or just a head buzz.

Lets not forget that Botany is a science and supply will follow demand. So, I don't really think that we can get to a point where the organic drug can "get out of hand" until it turns chemical, which will cause most current participants to loose interest in the drug. One benefit of cannabis (that I appreciate) is the ability to be "intoxicated, while maintaining control of oneself

I am not really late to the game, I am VERY aware of the strands. I also know that there are highs that can leave you passed out and (feeling like a bag of rocks and barley aware of whats going on) In the summer of 2009 (Arlington PD) picked a 14 year old rape victim up out of local apartment complex. After a rape kit and a parent consent blood screening the only thing she took that morning was 3 bong hits of a very strong breed of pot.

I will make you a deal...... I wont go throwing stones at pot in general, if you don't pretend like weed (or a strand of it) cannot hurt someone.

I tried weed in the 90s and have never touched it again, but I am From Oregon... I know a thing or two about pot.

Id really like to know how cannabis can hurt people? Aside from its legal status there is nothing damaging about it when vaporizing and eating it (all burnt materials, even organic, put out carcinogens). I highly doubt 3 bong hits of potent weed led to the rape of a 14 year old. A 14 year old girl can not defend herself against a physical attack from a man whether shes under the influence or not. The legal status of cannabis is why it is damaging. The way i see it, drink your beer, smoke your cigs or cannabis, i dont care either way because its not my body.

What ?

What a great country huh ? We can have these discussions with no repercussions no BIG Brother knocking at the door , wait who's that at the door . I remember good ol days when their criteria was to inject mice with pure THC & say see no good kills brain cells man science whew , no thanks . Go into any of the many Med. Mary Jane stores n Kali. 30 different strains , so ya we're there ! And it is about the $$ Guaranteed if they thought it would be profitable . Pure speculation on my part but you can damn sure bet Cig. companies are ready :noidea:

O you are one of those.... I guess you are going to tell me you have never ever seen someone baked so bad they are impaired in any way. I guess you think that no matter how baked you get you should still be able to drive on the freeway. And I guess you also intend to tell me that there is no way you can get so high you may fall asleep and drive head long into an oncoming car and kill someone. If that is all true, then I guess you are right, weed cannot hurt anyone. Weed like any other drug (legal) has side effects and to be legal, or even be consider for such would require users of the drugs to act in a responsible manner and understand that you can in fact be "too high" to do some things. Persons claiming pot is good for you and safe in any amount are counterproductive in the cause they are fighting for, as they are used as the example of reckless recreational users.

I am not anti pot, I am just another guy hoping that users can by some miracle, self regulate and use responsibly.

Pot will end up being legal, that seem pretty certain, I can live with that if you can quit claiming it is so darn safe. IT HAS RISKS......:redbrick:

Oh no I sat at many green lights !! Thank god vegas was smaller then & didn't get rear-ended , no no you are 100% right I was just saying their formula back then was to jack up mice on pure THC and we were supposed to take their word it was bad . I know you probably didn't read my 1st post about a co-worker who has ahd, add,bi-polar , just one of those you refer to , every body type reacts different to all different stimuli or depressants so I'm right there with you , its just that this is a free America so how we kill ourselves should be our choice , just don't take someone with you !!

Not sure what you mean by one of those. Just trying to have a friendly debate. Cannabis does not have risks, irresponsable are what makes it dangerous. Not gonna lie, ive driven high, but like alchohol i know my limits. Being high is being impaired, so yes i have seen impaired persons under the influence. Cannabis throughout history has proven to be safe and have its benefits. Im not gonna sit here and demonize other peoples choice of drugs, but alcohol, caffiene and tobacco have had more deaths associated with it than cannabis. You can have too much to smoke, but usually by that point you are sleeping or neck deep in the kitchen cabinets looking for a snack. I dont think people should operate any machinery at that point. Cannabis is safe in any amount taken, but certain things should not be done while at a certain level of highness. I can smoke two bowls and be fine to drive. I know that smoking 3-4 will put me at a point where i shouldnt and wont drive.

What ?

Don't kid yourself anything you put in your body over an extended time will fuc you !! Buddy I lived the 60s & 70s , did it ALL and while I believe pot is an herb & used "keyword used "is a great relaxant , however your 2 bowls to someone else could be like qualudes or oxy or vicodin . So be safe & enjoy !! Just don't take someone else with you . Reaction time is affected , attention is affected , its like anything use wisely & at home !!:hatsoff:

I didnt say smoking 2 bowls and driving is safe for everyone to operate a vehicle, but everyone should know their limit before driving. Its legal to be intoxicated to a point(.08) and operate a motor vehicle, the same should hold true with cannabis. But this wasnt the point i was trying to make. Cannabis is harmless when consumed and used responsibly. Its not the drug(cananbis, alcohol) making the decisions, its ultimately you. Ive been baked to the point you could blindfold me with dental floss and yet i was coherent enough to know the difference between good and bad. I agree, certain people shouldnt use it, but who am i to sit here and judge how another person lives. Theres alot more dangerous substances on the market that authorities should focus on.

I'm not trying to be confrontational or start a (take sides) type of argument, but your post is a little contradictory. If you tried pot in the 90's and never touched it again, then I believe you may know 1 thing or 2 about it and that is it. To say you are VERY aware seems like a bit of an exaggeration because people without first hand experience can only "know" what they read or what they are told by sources they consider credible. And, just because you lived in Oregon doesn't mean anything. My brother-in-law lives in Boulder in collage housing and wouldn't know pot if it bit him on the nose.

The problem I have with your approach is, it allows people to jump to conclusions and believe what they want to. For example, if a college student is up until 3am all week studying for finals. Then, on Saturday, has a couple hits and crashes on his car on the way home, the drug is automatically blamed. In reality, he could have had the accident because his overall lack of rest, not because he was high.
Another (peripheral) example: In November of 2012 a crocodile attacked a man in South Florida and ate him. Given your rationale above in relation to the rape, all crocodiles are man-eaters. Though this is an extreme example, the point is the same. You cannot make blanket statements about (anything) especially the effects a drug has on people (multiple). I am not saying that everyone should smoke or that there aren't (potentially) any negative side effects, but it is not the devil that people make it out to be.

And, to touch on the issue of legality: I don't believe it will be nationally legal in our lifetime because of money. The government makes more money off it being illegal than they ever could by legalizing & taxing it. Consider how much is made on drug testing alone. For more information on the topic, I suggest people check out The Union. It is available for instant streaming on Netflix

True , my point is how long term use will affect you , I have friends who have for 40+ yrs , they would be 1st to tell you how it affects memory , reaction time , does help our glaucoma positive side effect !! But their use was & is HEAVY so that is a consideration .And I'm not quite sure harmless is the correct term , maybe less harmful long term than nicotine , alcohol , scrips for legal meds . But it comes down to THE individual !

Yeah harmless was kinda the wrong word. It has an affect on your mind, namely cognitive skills. It has a major affect on a developing mind (under age 18-21). I started when i was 19, im 22 now smoking everyday with no adverse affects. People i know who started when they were 12-16 have learning disabilities and other behavioral problems plus no real drive to do more than work at a fast food place and leech off others. It can be harmful to your mental health if not used wisely but even then i know people who are doing just fine smoking 20+ years. Its a person by person thing i suppose.

Haha 3yrs not really a good research test but I get your point , addictive personalities are kinda what I'm getting at and we don't know who they are until too late . Even 20yrs is not enough really , I have issues now but is it pot related, inherited IDK but I still puff cause I rather not stress . Just like svdude wrote about service he volunteered its a choice , hopefully when you try it , make the right call good or bad !! Oh ya under 18 no smoky

A 14 year old being 'too stoned' to fight off a rape sounds like complete and utter BS to me. Either the girl is lying or the blood tests missed something.
Marijuana was clearly the scapegoat in this case.

Probably true but however unlikely it's still possible. I dated a major hippie stoner in high school that would get some serious strains from her moms collection and she would get incapacitated from smoking some of the stuff. She was once so incapacitated she told me it took her 30 minutes to dial my telephone number....looking back chances are her concept of time was greatly skewed but anything is possible.

High school students are under the age of 18, and the brain and body are still developing at that point. I don't recommend regular use at that age, but understand it does happen. Kids that age can also bite off more than they can chew (perhaps in the case of your girlfriend) but as they get older and mature, they learn that moderation is the key.
