The Effects of Pot

Are we talking about medical marijuana or recreational use?

Read the studies I posted. Please. Page 20.

Due to your response time, you clearly did not watch the first video, or even consult the description of the video for the links to medical research studies.

Also, the studies you posted all have to do with adolescence and other unorthodox ways of ingesting cannabis. Intravenously? Who realistically injects THC? Never heard of anybody in my life. Also, the adolescence aspect relates again to legislation and the legal control or current lack of. Also, do those same studies with alcohol and tell me it's gonna turn out better. No way. Again, why does what somebody else chooses to do with THEIR body concern you? You keep changing the subject and harassing me about these studies when you clearly failed to look at mine. It seems that people like you that could benefit most from cannabis. I honestly could go on about the medical benefits, but again, do your own research. I don't have to prove you wrong or right, agree or disagree. It is what it is, and your lack of awareness to the whole situation is really bumming me out. I have better places and things to do with my energy and time, you clearly are very opinionated already.

Huh?! Assuming much?

You think that YOUTUBE videos have no agenda?!

LOL.. and the funding for your studies doesn't? Looks like you're very productive in society with your amazing 15k posts. Get a life. Oh wait, this IS your life LMAO.

You clearly stated that it's about the motivation, I address that and now it's about the medical aspect. What is your agenda in this whole topic? I'm guessing you make good checks from big Pharma companies in prescribing their drugs to people that only hide symptoms of issues instead of addressing the root cause.

Oh spare me. "Big" pharma? Is that anything like "big" oil or "big" banks? The "man" is always sticking it to the little guy right? All corporations are evil. The police are corrupt. The list goes on...

Oh boy...nevermind. Dude, READ the studies. READ the method and rationale. Clearly, you do not comprehend the issue at hand.

Ok, go ahead and smoke weed all day long and pretend that you're preventing cancer, heart attack, strokes, and the likes. Go ahead...do it for MEDICAL reasons. :infidel:

Read the studies i quoted on page 20.

It isn't about MORTALITY rate that matters...it is about being PRODUCTIVE in society down the road for young kids nowadays smoking weed. Their productivity (or lack of) will impact the older generation's financial well-being.

It is NOT my belief that you have to worry about...it is FACTUAL EVIDENCE that you have to worry about.

I've read plenty of studies to know both sides of the argument, and it will not change my opinion, just as if I were to show you studies arguing pro-cannabis, your opinion most likely will not be swayed. The FACT of the matter is, no matter what is legal, illegal, or how people feel about cannabis, people will and always do find a way to use it. It also effects everybody in different ways, some might be unmotivated, some might be motivated... the same speaks for everything in life. No matter where you go in this world, and what laws are put into effect for or against cannabis, people will be using it. Also, legalization doesn't necessarily insist that more people will be using cannabis, studies seem to suggest otherwise. Marijuana Decriminalization & Its Impact on Use
What I'm getting at is the rates of use aren't really going to change based on legislation, therefore the productivity of the average citizen should not decline, because everyone's doing what they would have done anyways!

Once you get past the fact that people have choices and needs of their own, you should realize the semantics behind how productive a cannabis user is should not worry you. Ever since you were born and before that, people have been using cannabis and will continue to do so. Some will be motivated and go on to do great thing with their lives, while the others will choose to do nothing. That's a personal choice. So is using a drug. Same with your future, if you don't have the means to financially take care of yourself, then you made some poor choices at one point or another. Relying on others for Social security is a whole other ballpark and while I'd like to go there with you, I am not fond of politics and have more productive things to do.

1) legalization definitely will cause increase in users. While most people like to think they are bad to the bone and don't care about breaking the law... most are terrified of the consequences thus making use a crime deters a TON of people.

2) Productivity matters. If people not being productive does not bother you it should.. unless you're one of the unproductive people. I am tired of a large % of my hard earned money going to pay the grocery bills, utilities, medical costs, mobile phone bills, utilities, etc... of millions of "Americans". I want people to be productive and support themselves/their own families.

3) I disagree. Marijuana is not a need.

4) Personal choices become public choices when it results in others having to pay for the safety net. If it was like the old days when people who failed to work did not eat, and people who failed to save money were broke with no alternative but to get a job and work, I'd have no problem with people making personal choices. But when someone can make bad decision after bad decision and then expect a welfare program to support them for the rest of their lives... those personal bad decisions are no longer personal but now public and a public nuisance.

5) Want to smoke pot? I don't personally care. Go for it but do not come crying 10, 20, 30 years from now saying how the rest of us, who made wiser choices, should pay for you medical bills.

Good news for me is that ignorant folks like yourself are THE people who lines my pocket...so, keep at it tiger! Put some food on the table for my kids! Much appreciated. I make a ton of money of folks like you...no need for big Pharma with folks like you around!!!!!! :spit:

Strongly disagree. How is somebody else's consumption of cannabis negatively affecting your lives so badly? If somebody has found a way to solve a problem on their own, in their own reality, without harming others or even themselves for that matter, what do you care? Freedom haters? You know aspirin kills more people than cannabis, right? Also, so does water, and your beliefs hold none.

LOL, now I know where the name comes from!

Dude, I am not 4:20 "unfriendly". I am simply saying that a recreation is nothing that anyone else has business interfering with, whatever it is. However, when a recreation goes beyond, well, a recreation, then it starts have serious potential to become a problem for EVERYONE.

If we take personal experiences (which I think we can universally agree is our strongest individual influencer) as an indicator then we all know recreational users of almost all things. Now, I am strongly against dictating to anyone how to run their own lives. I only begin to take interest when it interferes with mine (you're free to do whatever you like, but be prepared to bear the full responsibility of your actions). When someone begins to use ANYTHING external as a (mental/social) coping mechanism then they are out of balance. Take that as you may, but making continual (which now takes it out of the recreational category) use of a drug WILL influence your behavior and decisions. Drinking too much/too frequently, smoking...you name it. It starts innocently enough, and if all it ever did was limit that persons ability to achieve a higher living standard then so be it. Problem is that statistically it goes well beyond that. It starts to influence their important decisions, their every day decisions, which increases the probability of them becoming a burden on society instead of contributing to it.

Today pot is widely accepted as the least taboo "illegal" drug used, so lots of younger kids get into it simply because it doesn't carry the heavy taboo nature the others do. I think it takes a rather responsible person to keep their recreations in check, and teenagers of that maturity are very rare, thus leading us to the statistical issue we have (and the basis for ALL of Thai's articles). Universally saying any/all pot use (above & beyond recreation) is acceptable is not correct. Just as any/all alcohol use is not correct. Again, if all a drinker/smoker ever did was sit home and drink/smoke and not go out driving/picking a fight/call out to work & get fired/show up high or drunk & get fired and end up on unemployment then great. But when they do go beyond the recreation then they burden the rest of us (no matter your personal opinion, this is what happens, which is why this argument exists in the first place).

It always comes down to individual responsibility. Smoke/Drink/Snort....IDGAF. But once they become a burden to ANYONE ELSE it becomes a subject open to criticism and debate. And unfortunately many many many many many many smokers/drinkers/snorters have demonstrated that they cannot manage their lives while using those things, and in turn become burdens on society in every way imaginable (social/financial/physical/mental....).

I think the majority of the problems regarding responsible users is that they are not given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to responsibly use their recreation of choice (alcohol being the exception here).

Lets enter dream land for a moment: Maybe the discussion should revolve around the laws being reactive instead of proactive. If one can maintain a responsible level of use (not negatively impacting ANYONE else) then who is to say they cannot use whatever they like? Then, when you are penalized & restricted by the law(s) you have only yourself to blame! Obviously there are lots of detail to work out within that framework, but at least it gives anyone the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to enjoy a recreation without negatively impacting others.

Unfortunately we will likely never see the day that the above example materializes because the consequences of the irresponsible users far exceeds the argument of the responsible users.

~And thats the bottom line 'cause Stone Cold said so.....

Beyond recreation...but what do you consider beyond recreation? Less than what the studies studied?

Studies i quoted:

1. one or two marijuana cigarettes 5 days per week
2. heavy marijuana use (1 or more cigarettes per day)
3. 4 d/wk or more (the majority of days in a week)

I don't know...from some of my patients, smoking 1 weed / day is NOT that much! :( I think that most (if not all) weed folks think that 1 weed a day IS recreation!

As for some who think that marijuana don't benefit medical folks...within past 6 months, i have taken care of 2 marijuana "recreational" users (18-21 years of age) for vague abdominal pain and nausea...that surprisingly got better with cold showers. Surgeon could not explain it...but damn it, it is from the journal that i read...marijuana.

Oh yeah, i thoroughly enjoy getting paid for easy cases...and thank goodness these kids' parents had private pay insurance! :)

I use the term "beyond recreation" to indicate the turning point between impacting only themselves, and impacting/burdening others. If a person makes themselves sick then they are only impacting themselves. This obviously only applies if they are in fact paying for their care (Dr. appoints, medicines if needed etc.). In regards to amounts, it varies from user to user.

Every aspect of our lives has varying risk, living in certain countries/states/provinces/cities/towns/villages carries varying risk. We cannot simply determine because there is a "less risky" place to live that all others should be deemed illegal/wrong. A stretch I know, but applicable here. Again, comes right back to individual responsibility.

This.

Does that mean that everyone that smokes weed is a worthless lazy bum?, no. But, the likelihood increases dramatically if you're a stoner.

I've only talked about my personal experiences, and of those I knew when I was smoking on a regular basis.

I actually ran into one of those do-nothing Highschool stoner friends over the weekend. I was at a grocery store near where I went to Highschool.

I wasn't sure it was him, because he looked easily 20 years older than he actually is. This is someone I knew from kindergarten all the way through to Highschool.

I say his name, he looks at me, and gradually he recalls who I am. Apparently he never did get a Drivers license, graduate from Highschool, get any kind of job, or move out of his parents house. He smelled heavily of pot. He asked if I had any spare cash..

I'm sure he's on the verge of being a contributing member of society, any day now.

So you make a split second judgements of your acquaintances as a "Loser Pot smokers"? that has aged 20 years too early, like fine cheese?
How do you know he's not on Crack, Meth, Hair spray or Whoopits?

Not split second. I talked to him for awhile. He told me what he was using, as if it wasn't obvious. Other than the occasional drink, his method of checking out was and apparently still is smoking pot daily.

He's in his 40's, (looks late 60's) has never had a driver's license or a job, and according to him, lives off his elderly parents.

I feel bad for him. But it's also his own choices that made him what he is today.

That guy sounds like a loser, who happens to smoke pot. I don't think you can draw the conclusion that he's a loser BECAUSE he smokes pot, knowwhati'msaying?

Buddy of mine smokes weed everyday and gets A's in school. He's extremely smart, funny, and creative. Also very friendly and caring.

There are losers that don't smoke pot and winners that do.
The point is in a larger sample of people, what GENERALLY makes losers and what GENERALLY makes winners. It gets complicated.

I will say though that at my age of 52, I don't see too many people in positions of power and wealth go out and smoke pot. Alcohol is a different story but there are very few stoners out there running a company or leading a design team or having immense responsibility for a multi-million dollar project.

Now, there are quite a few that I ride mountain bikes with lol.
