looks like Ill have to figure out what all I need & try this out for mine....

I found my VAFM on ebay for about $60. Any VAFM from the early 90's 7MGE Supra or early 90's 3.0L Cressida or Camry will work; all have the same size intake and the connection is the same.
May be able to find one at a salvage yard for cheaper, I just couldn't get there during business hours. If you get it at the yard, you can also get the stock 7MGE air box (see the above thread link).

Still doing some tweaking on my tune set-up, I'll post some finish specs when I get it dialed in.

Update on the 7MGE VAFM conversion -- Current tune settings:
Timing - 15*BTDC
Idle air bypass (on VAFM) - out two turns from bottom.
Idle Speed - 750 rpm
Air/Fuel ratio cog (on VAFM) - adjusted 5 teeth rich

Running good. Will run this tune for about a month, check the MPGs and continue to tweak :madgrin:
BTW - previous MPGs = 11... can't go anywhere but up from there! ray:

Hey guys, Sorry for the late reply... a little bit since I've been on here.

Current tune is pretty nice. Really liking the added off idle power and throttle response. The engine doesn't need nearly as much throttle to accelerate and I don't hit the trans kick down as frequent as before.

Bad news: I can't keep my foot out of the throttle and drive like I stole the truck constantly... Sooo MPGs is only up to 12.5 city. If I drove better, I'd see big improvements. Got a long drive to a wheeling event scheduled in Oct, will get real good read on highway MPGs on that trip.
If I was really worried about the MPGs, I'd drive my daughters Corolla. Hahaa!

I need to post some updates...

- Relocated my winch solenoid into the engine bay compartment (thanks to Slimwood for supervising)
--- With that I also installed some in cab winch power and control switches.

- Replaced the thimble and hook on my winch line with a MasterPull solid thimble
--- While I had the locked brummel apart also replaced the chaff and spool guards on the synthetic line.

- Removed the large pin striping from the body exterior. Passenger side was dry and scaly and didn't go easily; still needs some more clean-up to remove some minor stubborn gunk. Drivers side came off no problem.

Current project: rear cargo deck/storage system/ sleeping platform

Still need to build the drawer for the right side and cut the sleeping extensions.
Carpet is on the way too.
Hope to finish it up this weekend.

Edit: looking at it now in pics, I'm putting some concealed cabinet hinges on all the doors. More expensive but those piano hinges look tacky. :toilet:

Couple cargo/sleeping deck pics:
Two bins for dirty recovery gear and a 17"x35"x7" drawer for goods. Also some side storage cubbies with access to the factory side locations.

Some concealed hinges already on order to replace the chrome piano hinge.

Closed up; very stealthy storage

The bins come forward to provide support for the sleeping extensions.

Welded some tabs on these footman loops to create the slip joint.

I'm still enjoying the extra throttle response. Lol!
Averaging just over 12mpg city driving. Going on a long trip next weekend. I'll get some straight highway numbers posted after that.
I may turn the cog wheel back lean a tooth as well. I'll let you guys know if I make any other changes.

Edit: Also remember I've got the auto trans. So if you've got the manual it'll be a lot better.

awesome 4runner i love the bumper i think im going to do the same thing and build my own i also do like the ones out and i dont want to spend 1200 on something that is going to get bounced off rocks lol nice work cant wait till mine looks that good

This is a very nice build I'm definitely gonna be stealing some ideas off of you for that storage and sleep area. I'm in the air force as well... hell I'm actually deployed right now on the kc-135 working right next to the b-1's. Cant wait to get back home and get started on my 92.

Sad thing is, if I ever did that, I know a friend would roll by and remove them all and let me get bitten.:frusty:

I tend to always carry while camping... If I woke up while someone was molesting the vehicle I'm sleeping in... That's not ending well.

It wasn't too bad a deal. Could've been better had I known the extent of the engine work required.

Ok, so nice easy solid interstate driving (75mph and some hills... so maybe not all that "easy") netted me a 16.5MPG average over the 7 hrs (total) of driving to and from a wheeling trip this past weekend.
