Passed the Tech exam with no problems. :biggrin1:

They offered for me to take the General for only a $1 but due to molasses slow processes on the test volunteers part , I chose to study and save that for another day; I was there for almost 5 hours just for the one test. They are all volunteers so it's hard to complain and they were overwhelmed with 33 people testing (a record for them).

That is awesome. I just found myself a good elmer and he's teaching me the ropes. Hoping to take the test soon!

Current project: 140A alternator swap
Stock alt is only 60A, so in my research I found that this alt from a '95th Cadillac Eldorado is a really close fit and puts out 140 amps.

You can see the mount config is really close with the 12 and 6 o'clock bolt pattern. The separation of the holes is about 3/8" bigger on the Cady alt. And the overall girth of the Cady alt requires mod of the lower adjustment bracket to be longer and with a slight angle in the middle. I extended the lower adjustment bracket about 4.75"

Also the top mount is about 1/4" smaller on the Cady alt so a shim was built out of washers.

Initial belt alignment looks good.

Still have to get a longer belt and final assembly to complete. Will update this post with those details.

Dude! The mods you come up with and the Runner you're creating!! I love this thread! There are so many ideas I'm inspired by. So cool!

Are you going to run a dual battery setup with the extra power? I may have missed something, but did you or are you adding something that will suck up the extra power?

Lol. Thanks!
The stock alt barely keeps up with electric windows. I wanted the extra power to be able to run the winch and headlights at the same time... Haha!
Second battery: I have considered stuffing a second battery (a sealed type) up where the stock spare tire was... There just isn't any room left in the engine compartment, unless I start getting rid of things like windshield washer fluid bottle or rework my intake tube (possible).

Now that you mention it... you're right about the windows! I was thinking maybe it was the age of the regulators or something, and just dismissed it.

You've already built a storage/bed unit for the back, so maybe a way to access it underneath? I haven't built mine yet, so if I wanted to create a storage area below the rear floor where the tire was... (gears are starting to really whirr)...

How did you come up with an alternator from a Caddy? I used to manage a Napa, so I may be able to put my hands on a spec book for alternators. Although, I kinda like what you've come up with since it isn't much to mod it in.

This is what my lower bracket ended up being... 4.75" longer with an angle at the joint.
Hard to tell in the pic but I set the stock arm to the engine forward side of the extension. Effectively spacing the arm forward 1/4". This was needed to lay flat against the alternator face.

The belt part number I ended up with...it was actually hard to find a 4 rib belt at this length. Belt tracks real nice with only a tiny bit of vibe when revving it up.

Fired it up and ran all the lights and all the power windows at once... Didn't even flicker. Huge improvement. Now I have no fear of wheeling and winching at night with all the lights on.

Been an fun and interesting trip to Moab UT. Wheeled the Kokopelli Trail on the way in from Colorado and ran some trails here in Moab. Will post pics and a trip report when I get home next week.

Quick update: Been busy catching up on family life from the two weeks gone to Moab and the months prior getting ready. Got some great pics to share, just got to find the time to sort through them all.
