The GAS CAP dilema - 2008 V8

6 months ago got the gas cap code and dash light show, got new gas cap, all good until now.
Getting the dash light show again and suspect a crappy gas cap. Today is sunday so dealer is closed but I will check them out tomorrow to see if the cap is warrantied.
Any other items to check for issues?

Simply remove it and re install. Make sure it's tight. Pretty common. Happens every few months to me. In Oregon it's illegal to pump your own gas and the awesome pump people leave it loose.

What's a "gas cap" code? There's a set of DTCs that a gas cap is usually the first thing I'd try before anything else (P0441, P0455, P0456), but Toyota's at the moment do not have a singular DTC that indicates "Gas Cap Loose". What DTC did you have?

I believe parts are warrantied for 1yr even if you buy them over the counter from a dealer, so IF the cap is the issue you should be covered.

It's actually pretty common for the factory gas cap to just wear out on the 4Runners and GX470s, there's a TSB for both on it. The caps just don't stay tight anymore. The best way to test that is to take the cap, tighten it, then take two fingers and loosen it. If it takes little to no pressure to unscrew the cap with two fingers you need a new one.
