I am pleased to say that I am once again a 4th gen owner. I thought the grass would be greener on the other side of the fence (5th gen), but NOOOO...for me, it wasn't. I traded in my 08 SE for a 5th gen. So, when a 4th gen 2009 TE with < 20,000 miles on it showed up in my area, I decided to right a wrong and come back to the 4th gen. I am glad I did. When I sat in the TE, it was like saying hello to an old friend. Some things just feel right and this certainly does. No way will I part with my 4th gen again.

I kind of know the feeling, I went a little further tho, I went from 3rd gen Sport edition t4r (regret I sold her) to a chevy Tahoe and now back to a 4th gen t4r. I got a limited this time so I have a few luxuries I didn't have before, so I cant complain.
 
NikonShooter, Congrats!! I've always been interested in the 09 TE. Tell us more. I thought having the rear locking and the center diff. lock was the altimate 4RD. Have you been able to check these out yet and if so what do you think?

Haven't been able to check it out as I've had the 09 TE for less than 24 hours. Doesn't look like I'll have a chance to check them out off road anytime soon as work schedule looks pretty booked. Nevertheless, I'm stoked to have the TE and will put the various systems to use on an as needed basis. I may not need it right away, but it's good to know it's there and available when I do need it. :lightsaber:
 
I love the 4th gen and do not like the looks of the 5th gen at all. Can you tell us what you did not like about it?
 
im really starting to like the look of the 5th gens. still love my 4th gen look though. went to the local stealership today...wow. sticker on a full load 11 ltd was $52k!!!:flipoff:

Speaking just for myself, I found the seats in the LTD to be quite uncomfortable for long trips (I have no history of back problems); less than 2 hours was ok, but after 2 hours, my back would be killing me. The overall step-in height (getting in and out of the car) was a bit higher than the 4th gen even though 5th gen ground clearance is only 0.6 more than the 4th. It was high enough that even my dog had trouble jumping into the cargo area without a running start. The car was more cumbersome to drive than the 4th gen. I'm use to driving small sporty cars and the 4th gen drives better than the 5th - more nimble and agile, if that can be applied to a SUV. Lots to like about the 5th gen also, but in the end the uncomfortable seats was the breaking point for me. Plus I got a 09 TE in excellent condition with <20K miles on it. Lower and shorter monthly payments is also a bonus!
 
Good to hear... I have had my 4th gen for a few months and loving it compared to my g/f's 5th gen sr5. Hers feels like a Honda Pilot and doesnt have that truck feel that the 4th gen has. Now put the 5.7 in the 5th gen and we might have a different story. :)
 
Nice, welcome back to the 4th gen! Sounds like you were pretty lucky to find a TE, seems like they are hard to find.
 
the 5ths are growing on me, but I've done too much to my 4th to consider trading. But it seems like people comment most about build quality, no? If that is the case are the 5ths built in the states vs the 4ths built in Japan?
 
All 4Runners have and still are built in Japan. As far as quality concerns go I'm sure some of it is cost since there was a quality dip going from 3rd gen to 4th in some respects. Obviously some things were added and some were lost since the average price for a 4Runner really hasn't changed too much over the last 15 years.
 
Hmm.. that seems High, if I remember the 4th gen limited fully decked with a V8, 4WD and the toys barely hit 45k...

A fully decked limited 4x4 with every box checked on the Toyota Website is 48k MSRP. Which is weird, since the Sequoia starts at 40k...
