Just bought one of these (Amazon) and it didn't fit well on my 2011 4Runner. just used a file to file down the back edges of the box. Touched up with some black paint. It fits fine now and it easier to get in and out without a hammer or pry bar.
I take my key with me when I fly fish. I Have often thought what would happen if I fell into the water with the key in my upper pocket of my waders. This will solve the problem.

Did you need to buy anything other then the safe part? I see they mention about something You may need on newer Toyotas.

I can speak for my installation only. For my 2nd gen Taco, I needed to buy longer side pins. However, when putting it into my 2017 4Runner, I used the standard pins.

No, Everything in the package was all I needed to install on my 2011 4R. Just needed to file down the back edge of the insert, mostly on the corners. Use a very fine file and hit it lightly so you don't file a hole in the box. I touched it up with some black paint and it slides in and out very easily.
I don't know if Toyota changed anything on the trailer hitch since 2011. Where the bolt hole is will differ depending on the manufacture and class of the hitch. The foam rings that come with this safe should adjust for that.

That's pretty cool. I've never seen one of those. I'll tell you what I saw in Hawaii last time I was there that I will be using. Someone had a lockbox on their rear tow hooks. I thought it was genius. That might be helpful for those that always have their tow receiver plugged with a ball hitch.

Genius! I am going to look into this cuz all my outdoor activities involve the hitch.
