It's possible if you have the wind fairing on the very front of a full rack and have one cross bar near the back the wind would be disrupted enough to cause noise if you have no other cross bars between. Just a theory. With my wind fairing on it is just a tad more noisy but not noticeable unless you are really listening for it.

Now without the fairing it was very loud with loud whistling noises. Not tolerable without the fairing.

What do you mean seated? On the full we just have the faring bolted as far forward as you can get it.

You can also put a little bit of upwards pressure on the rack with the front feet. Push down on the foot while tightening it to the side rail, that will result in it putting a hair of pressure upwards on the front of the rails.

I figured that was the only option and bolted to the front most slot. Ill give the front foot adjustment a shot and see how it goes. Thanks!

Update time; its been a crazy month.

For anyone who has our bolt on wind farings and has experienced vibration issues, we think we have nailed down the design revision now to eliminate that vibration. Please reach out to us on our website's help ticket system and we'll get a new faring sent out on us.

Does it change the general fitment at all? I have a fairing on the front of my stock rack with 4 LFD cross bars, and I couldn't even get it to tighten down without really pressing down on the roof. I ended up putting a couple 1/4" sleeves to raise it up a bit. Seems to work and no vibration, but it does block the front some if I need to have stuff hanging off the front end at all.

No, we didn't change the length any, just added center supports. We do see some people need a few washers in the center as a spacer, but I've not seen anything that high. Not sure why you would have needed that much height. Something's weird there.

We typically don't have noise complaints with complete racks.

The crossbars by themselves in the factory side rails are hit and miss when it comes to noise, but there is a ton of variation there between crossbar placement, cargo carried, etc. The crossbars by themselves in the factory side rails without any cargo on them tend to be the loudest, cargo or gear on them (hi-lift, maxtrax, etc) usually quiet them right down.

Hey, sorry I missed that one.

You just remove the factory battery mounting tray. Beneath that is a small sheet metal shelf the tray rests on. The cage has a hole pattern in the bottom, you simply pick a few of the holes, and either use supplied self tapping sheet metal screws, or drill and rivet the plate in place.

So my order did not come with the self tapping screws. Can you PM me with some info on this?

Got 2 crossbars and a wind fairing fpr a thule box. Sadly the thule mount was too wide to fit inbetween the fairing and the bar. So i just ordered a third (i was originally going to get 3 but figured id try to make 2 work and maybe save money) the mounts work perfect on the lfd bar


Need a way to mount maxtrax with the box and my tent so going to get a fab shop to make an angeled bracket. (dont own any tools for metal work)

It isn't supposed to rest on the roof, but we included it so that if there was deflection to hit the roof, you'd have the softer rubber hit instead of the metal edge.

I've had the the full roof rack (Steel) since December and haven't experienced any significant wind noise. I've only really noticed it at highway speeds when its pretty windy out. Other than that no issues.

That is what I used in Flat Black. Threaded them through one of the shipping boxes and hit them with the spray.

I tried to apply pressure to the front leg when bolting it in and I'm still having issues with wind noise at low speeds. Tried re-shifting some of the bars but no luck. Starting to wonder if I went wrong somewhere in the installation process?

Ok, a few things to look at/try real quick.

First, give each crossbar a knock, and make sure one isn't loose. I've missed tightening a bolt before, and it made some noise. The crossbar with the loose bolt made an obvious noise difference when knocking on it.

Second, if they're all tight, we should have sent some rubber tape with the hardware. See if the front feet are touching metal on the roof anywhere, and if so use some of that rubber tape on the bottom of the foot where yous see contact. If you ran out of the tape or discarded it, we can send you more.

Lastly, I don't remember which rack you got, but if it's an all aluminum one with no steel crossbars at all, adding a couple steel crossbars may stiffen it up and take out any excess movement if it is an all aluminum. We can send you a few to swap out and try if so.

Im out of the office for the next 10 days at the trade show for the parent company, but I can have someone in the office send stuff if you need.

It took a bit of adjustment to keep the wind deflector from vibrating against the roof on the highway, but I finally got everything working good and successfully made it from Dallas, TX to Moab and back with out issue.

Unfortunately about a week after I returned the wind deflector started vibrating against my roof again. I ensured the deflector and crossbar were fully tightened down but it made no difference. At this point I’ve taken everything off and will only mount the cross bars up when on a trip.

I've noticed mine is hit or miss, too. Some trips there is very little noise/vibration but then on the next trip it's really, really bad. Still playing with the position of the front cross bar and keeping the deflector as close as possible to the cross bar.

My deflector is as far up towards the front of the car as it can go. The crossbar is all the way to the front as well. With the rubber on it was a little close to the roof so i just yanked it up a little bit and now its perfect. Drove for 40 hrs the past 5 days and no noise. Had the 2 treds mounted as well and it was as quiet as the factory rails.
