The new 4th gen

New member
Just joined the 4th gen squad and picked up a 2005 Sport edition v8! So far I love this thing, and the power. My average mpg shows as 12.8 though, hopefully that's wrong :rofl:
Going to replace the timing belt first and then, toytec ultimate lift along with a 1 inch body lift! Big things to come :thumb:

You are truly blessed to find a V8 Sport. Enjoy the new purchase! That MPG is definitely wrong, BTW. You should be hitting close to 16/17 city & 19/20 highway with everything stock if I'm not mistaken

That's what I was told too. With it stock the best I got on a road trip was 17. With it lifted and 275 tires I get around 12-13 City and 16-17 freeway. I've gotten a bad as 10 mpg on a tank with a lot more short stop and goes. I've been wanting to clean the injectors etc to see if that helps but I've been warned that if I do that I could mess up my cats with the junk that comes out because of the high mileage so for now I live with the poor MPG.

Try resetting the average MPG. It most likely got lowered by test-drives and idling in the dealer lot. Keep in mind that the MPG gauge typically reads 1-2 mpg high (mine's almost exactly 1.7 high most of the time).

With a lift and the accompanying tires, get used to some bad readings though lol. Just adding e-rated 265/70R17 tires to mine (which weigh 20ish lbs more each than the stock tires) dropped me an mpg or two. I might get 18mpg on the highway if I'm lucky and keep it at 65 (I have a V6 though)
 
congrats!! super jelly.

many people say lower mpg could be from a seized brake caliper. Might wanna check that

I highly doubt anything coming out of the injectors from a cleaning will clog your cats. I'd be more worried about running an injector cleaner through the gas, that breaking stuff in the fuel system loose, and in turn clogging the injectors more.

If you really want, you can always pull the injectors and do a proper cleaning. Much more involved, though.
 
recently got 18.4 on a road trip, lifted armored and loaded up. with the v8 at 70-75mph avg. Calculated with math, also confirmed the gauge in my truck was dead accurate.

however around town mixed driving its about 12ish
 
Thanks for the replies about the mpg haha, I'm not worried about it, it didn't seem to actually be burning 12 to the gallon atleast, and it keeps going up!
 
Yours is the exact same truck as mine when I bought it stock. Have fun modding it your way!

That rear center bumper piece should be silver matching the front bumper piece, is it just dirty in the pics because it looks black?

Congrats on the new 4runner! Just got a 07 sport v6 and im loving it. I bought mine knowing mpg would be crap. Coming from a 4 cyl camry getting 35 mpg and filling up every other week was nice, but so gutless. Love the 4runner drive.

I think it just looks like that because it was wet!
