The **NEW** (and final) GOBI Ladder Plate

Well, it’s been a little bit of a roller coaster but I think we are finally there! This is the final GOBI ladder plate for the 5th Gen Toyota 4runner. Installing this new plate to the plate you have currently, will stop the contact and rubbing issues you have been experiencing, certainly those who upgraded their rear gas struts.. I have had it installed for a few days and its looks very promising!

I can’t speak for those who have the Baja rack and Gobi ladder combo due to the pure fact the racks have different dimensions. I would call Paul at Gobi on that one.

Looks like it will definitely hit the Baja rack. Maybe its just me, but it looks like the angle is now different when its fully up. Guess we will see when mine gets here next week. I hope it will work with these revisions.

Good point. He said to tell those who require one to call him and he will ship one out to you. Sorry, I forgot to mention that important piece! My brain is else where as you well know!

Yes the angle is slightly different. It seems the ladder mounts a little further away from the plate, than the original one. I have never seen a Baja Rack in person though from the images I have seen, it seems that the rack sets further back than the Gobi one..?

Its interesting Paul has been making these ladder's and plates for various different vehicles for many years and never had such time, like he has with the 5th Gen Toyota 4runner.

Lets hope this time, this is winner! So far so good! :reddance:

Yes it does... though from what I understand; thats from what Paul was telling me. Is that he moved the location of the threads of where the ladder attach's/ mount's further back to stop the rubbing issue and contact from occurring. He did this mid-last week to the plate.

All I can say is that mine has stopped, both rubbing and making contact. I would call Paul for your concerns. Sorry man, good luck to you and keep us posted.

Phillyd2, I understand your thoughts there. I don't by any means want to speak for everyone because it worked on my truck so it should work on everyone else's. I had a similar issue to you, though mine was deeper. Mine actually dented the top of the roof where as your's scratched the surface, if you will (from what I have seen picture wise)

I don't have any rubbing on my Blizzard Pearl paint (even with the beefy struts) - just Gobi Ladder and BajaRack contact (powder coat on powder coat). I'm not *too* concerned about it. I'm going to try to put some Rescue Tape in about three places just to have powder coat on silicone (TAPEbareTAPEbareTAPE) rather than powder coat on powder coat.

I guess maybe a simple dremel work and you'll be fine. Mind you then you have to get it power-coated again. Thats good news your not getting any rubbing!
