The New Ford Bronco Debut Ad Nauseam - 8pm Eastern, July 13, 2020

The lifetime warranty is not as good as you think...for example, at 125k miles, your Jeep engine kabooms. Since the engine replacement & labor cost more than the vehicle (for example), Jeep Warranty will just give you a check for your "totaled" Jeep. They have no incentive to fix your Jeep. So, lifetime warranty does not mean that they will keep fixing your Jeep forever.

Well shit.
I am still on the fence to be honest between JLUR or BL/Sas 2DR Bronco.
I want to run 37's, so the jury is still out on the Bronco, despite the glamor shots floating around.

Knowing that Ford does not have the best track record for "over-engineering" stuff, adding bigger tires above specs may not be the wisest.

They are right on par with Jee....err, Fiat when it comes to engineering. When you look at Wrangler forums, you will see the incredible number of problems the new JL's have.

Oh wow...yeah have not surf on JL forum......what kind of issue? Mechanical issue? I thought JL redesign was to fix all the axle issues etc of JK.

I'm not sure I'd trust a D44 rear axle with 37's. Definitely be weary of a D44 based IFS. Although smaller -slightly- in ring gear, the Toyota 8.2 is very strong. The pinion shaft is about 15% larger than a D60 for example.

But - who knows what's in the new Bronco. If it's a 9" ring gear D44 with similar updates that the Toyota diffs got about 2010, it could be perfectly capable of turning 37s. Hard to know until it comes out. And the same goes for the internals. What lockers does it us, how are they activated, how strong are they? etc. The newer LC 9.5 diffs can handle 1500hp tractor pull competitions. They're vastly superior to the old 9.5s in every way. So there's a good chance Ford spec'd a much stronger D44 than Jeep. And the biggest issue with the Jeep D44 is really the front u-joints. There's still not enough room in the knuckle for a high strength outer CV. WTF Jeep??? You had one design job on that front axle for the JL and you still left less room than a 1980's Toyota closed knuckle axle?

Given how well Ford did in spec sheet for everything else - I think there's a pretty good chance it'll handle 37's without much issue. Especially if you keep the weight down. Looks like you could damn near bolt on 40's without mods.

Without being too cynical, I don't think you can make a dedicated off roader and market it to people who plan on using it to drive around town without having a crap ton of complaints about road noise, sluggish acceleration, crap top speed, and scary handling on a suspension that's meant to articulate not give good skidpad figures.

These days it's about looking the part without actually doing the part.

Actually, i am one of those folks except i do go off-road once in a while. I do care about road noise, finer things, etc.. Thus, i do not own a Wrangler, even tho i respect them for what they can do off-road.

The amount of compromise needed on-road to get more off-road will make this statement easy to agree with.

There will always be a spectrum which allows you to do both, but most dedicated off-road builds will always give up something significant on-road to achieve that they do off-road. The ones that have a true desire to do it right, will ultimately need a separate truck or just put up with the cons on-road.

I have friends in this camp, and while their trucks are still street legal, it’s far from something you would want to daily drive.

I've seen that, but really doesn't mean much. Many of those pics are not even production vehicles.
Nor have there been other shots of 37's out in the wild, like the 35's running in TX and CO.
Trust me...I am hoping 37's are good to go with the 2 inch lift and it seems Ford would want to pull it off because it's so common with Rubi's.

Minor things. Unfixable death wobbles, cracked frame welds, electronic shut-downs that immobilize it, engine fires that burn it to the ground, loose bolts everywhere, fuses not installed properly, ya know, little things like that. It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand!

You forgot water ingress from rain at the door and or roofline.

I never really thought that would be me… but as I get older and busier I very much started to want the same.

I want a bit more from my ride, including luxury items, and I still want the option to go off-road with a reasonable amount of capability in a turn-key package.

Jeeps tend to burn in the middle of nowhere only AFTER the mods have been removed...

It has to matter to you before it's considered a problem. It doesn't matter to me.

How is pushbutton start even a thing to concern yourself over?

Legendary Toyota quality means most of my door locks are broken and I have to use the key to get in, anyway.

He is a one if those who does get that "simpler is better" is what makes the 4 runner so popular. If you want all the gadgets go buy a highlander or rav4 no one will blame you for leaving..lol
