the progress of my satoshi grill and blacking out the headlights

well i decided to do the satoshi grill since i had an extra grill after buying the limited grill. to be honest this was a pain in the ass lol plus i had work and what not so its still ongoing

i was at a friend of mines shop and all he had was carbon to back it with so the grill is reinforced with double carbon now lol so its pritty damn strong

btw carbon fiber is the itchiest **** on earth my legs were itchy for days

i just finished priming it yesterday and i am heading back to the shop to spray the color and clear today

and now for the headlights who ever said 10 min at 200 is a lier for baking the headlights, after tearing up the housing a bit trying to pry with a screw driver. i switched to another method i got a wet towel wrapped the headlight put it in the oven at 250. Waited for the towels temp to reach 200 then pulled it out and it came apart so much easier.

while i had it open i eliminated the squirrel finder

alright after painting i must say i now hate rustoleum with a passion ended up using satin black. i was too lazy to go to lowes since home depot didnt have the krylon fusion im kicking myself for that now. the only reason im not putting finished pictures up now is because when i was reassembling it some paint chipped off. so i re sanded it and sprayed it again i came back ten min later to put another coat, and it had wrinkled up in all the spots i had resprayed. so im not sure if i should just resand this one and respray it or, sand both of them go buy some krylon fusion and spray it with that.

any who ill update this later in the day when i make more progress

i would try 275 for 9 mins, it works perfect for me, and this has been my standard to open up headlights.

well i tried to sand all the bad paint out and it wouldn't work and the more i sanded the worse it got. so i soaked it in super clean for a day and this is the end result

Nice grill. How about trying "TOYOTA" emblem like on old bjs.
I plan to add a mesh without removing middle bar.

As for me black headlight housing looks not very good. But that's a matter of taste.

I bake lights for 10 min at 250 and they always open right up.

Also, I found some fj40 emblems online, just look on ebay, they run around $70

Did you use kitchen oven to bake lights or something else?
I have got only kitchen one and afraid of chemical fumes while baking.
Were there any fumes?

No fumes, all the write ups about doing air on the side of caution they can handle some heat, just don't place anything straight on the metal racks.

Yep, I've only got one kitchen too. I actually used another friend's oven for one set.

No fumes unless you hold the headlight close and sniff the glue, which I don't recommend :nono:

You took a break about as long as mine between starting and finishing yours! It looks great so far, I agree the emblem helps fill the void!

Why not just take the lenses off the lights you have on now and replace the cracked ones? Or are they knock off housings too?

That's funny when I started the Projects they were so popular.

You can't see it but on the passenger headlight on the corner theirs a chunk that cracked off. Maybe what I'll do is take the inside parts of the depo headlights and put them in the stock ones.

My friend has a trd badge I'll put in the corner for now

Well after realizing I can fix my headlights right now and that I was just being lazy.
I'm about to throw them in the oven( the passenger side has hairline cracks all over you can't see it in the picture)
