So a year ago i have my quad out in the backyard desert. We have 4 of us riding around for a few hours when i realize i need to get something out of my runner. I check my pockets and have no keys. I think back and know my brother-in-law had my keys last. I ask him and he cant find them. We then figure out that the set has fallen out of his pocket while riding my quad and is now buried in the desert floor.

Fast forward a year and my wife and I are walking the "back forty" with her father. As we walk along he bends down and picks up something. "Here's your keys" he says all nonchalant. I take the key and remote, dust them off and point them at the runner 100ft away. Soon as i hit the button, "beep, beep".
Still has a nice strong signal after a year buried in the desert!! :lookout::reddance::banana:

I love how the keys are just like, "A year? Na we're still good dude." In the desert as if you just lost them yesterday. :bigok:

I hear you! These little remotes are strong. Mine has been through the washing machine more than once and still works!

Not quite as impressive as a year but I got one.

Once in high school auto shop, it was the middle of winter and I was taking out a GMC Envoy we had been working on (surprise surprise :D). So I parked it and continued with class but when the shop teacher asked for the keys back I couldn't find them. We looked all over but no luck. Turns out they fell in a snowbank, someone found them in the spring.

I think the fob needed a new battery but the transponder key worked still.

thats awesome you found them about a year ago i stoped at a river overlook to check the rapids out before jumping in up river with some yak's, anywho was out of my friends car for maybe 5 minutes down by the river got back to the car and found my friends passenger window busted in. (where in the middle of nowhere in the mountains the last thing i thought was a break in) I looked up like maybe a limb had fallen or maybe i had shut the door to hard. Nope looked in saw my backpack gone my friends bag gone my friends phone gone and her purse. luckily i had the keys to her car in my pocket. Unfortunately my main drivers key and remote as well as house key, a few other vehicle keys were in my bag. I lost like 900 bucks worth of murchandise that was in my bag (some camping gear, clothes, belt buckle and belt, sunglass,) the only thing i miss is my main drivers key all i have now is the damn vallay key so i cant lock my glove box luckily i had a spare remote though. Evidently it was a regular bonnie an clide duo that got us drove up broke the window grabed what they could as quick as they could and drove off. I'd be so happy to have some cop call me that had followed up with the investigation and was like well we found your bag all that was in it though were these keys lol.

I'll tell you one thing about the 4Runner fob/remote (mine at least)... Sucker has the longest range of any fob I have ever used/seen!

I'm BMW is good for about 10', I can use my 4R's inside the house, a few stories up, you name it.

This story just reminded me of when I went to my dads in california, my wife and I went over to Oceanside beach and were walking along the shore. (it was january and there was a stormy weekend so the water was all nasty and had eroded the beach quite a bit) So walking along the shore and decide to go take off. Well I reach in my pocket and no keys... I only lock my door with my key fob so no chance of it being locked in the truck. So freaking out panicking as my other keys are in my wife's purse inside the truck. So fast forward about 30 minutes of searching the beach for my key and an older guy walks up to me and asks what I'm looking for. I tell him and describe the items on the key ring. 10 minutes later the guy comes up to me and says are these your they washed up from a wave when he was going up the beach. Talk about blind luck!

Keys worked even being in the water, after I got home I took the key fob apart and discovered it's sealed pretty well. Rinsed it out with alcohol and dry it out for the day. They still work about 2-3 years later!
