the Rescue Runner build thread

They are a ton of work and a big hole to throw money at but boy are they fun once running right. I'm sure you have done your research but I'll add my $.02 as well. Rotor packs of the 1st gen and 2nd gen are the same so there isn't a difference in power output. That said the 2nd gen usually comes with a dynamic belt tensioner which is awesome.

If possible aim for the 7th injector kits too. Way easier to tune with a piggy back fuel controller. I did the full URD 6 injector kit and it has been a tuning nightmare from the beginning.

TRD claim that with the stock pulley you don't need any fuel upgrades - I say false. My SC with a stock pulley pushed my AFR to an 18 in the higher RPM's. The 3.4 is a tank but even it wouldn't put up with that lean of environment for long. You can tune it with just a stand-alone Water/Meth kit. I use a Snow Performance kit that has worked flawlessly for years. If you end up pulling the trigger on one I'm happy to turn wrenches anytime.

Was it the one on Ebay where the father just pulled it off his 4runner since his son was going to start to drive it?

In any case here you go.

1st Gen (I talked to the guy and his asking 800-900 for it): Trd supercharger 3.4L

2nd Gen: TOYOTA TRD SUPER CHARGER
It was that one on eBay... If I bought I would do the 7th injector and also headers... So it would be another $2k at least in other mods. And so yeah, its probably best I don't get one... If I can get one that needs a rebuild that would be ideal

welp i almost bought a SC today, got outbid, but its probably for the best...

I saw that one and it flew up in price at the end. 2K is way too much IMO for a used unit. $1500 is appropriate, so I'm glad you missed out on that one.

I talked to that Fresno guy as well and $900 wasn't bad, but it looked pretty beat. It's sold now though.

There was a 1st gen on ebay that needed a rebuild and went for $6XX recently. I thought about picking it up, rebuilding it and flipping it, but missed out on the bidding. They pop up quite often and I'll send you some links if you want.

Owning and mod-ing your 4Runner is a sickness. Issac, you know that eventually you will want one bad enough to fold to our peer pressure. Might as well just do it now.

I wonder if the re-builders or manufactures would have old stock they want to get rid of? Magnuson I'm sure would want big bucks, but some place like Embree Specialty Machines might. They rebuilt, ceramic coated the rotor pack, and painted mine and did a killer job!

I'll keep my eyes open too for a good deal. So much easier to spend your money then my own.

sickness?, man have you seen my runner... i got the full on disease here.
yeah i do not want to pay very much for an SC at this point. when i do it im gonna do the 7th injector kit, along with probably a meth kit as well, and put on some headers, so all in all im looking at $3-3.5k or so and thats with me figuring on spending only $1k on the SC. from everything i have looked at, the 7th is the way to go, and headers will really help bring the SC alive, especially with a 2.2 pulley. sure id love to have a 2nd gen TRD, but id be ok with a 1st gen one also.

any way i look at it, i need to do the gears and lockers first.

Doing the Thorley headers was by far the worst project I've ever accomplished on my truck. Make sure you are up on your tetanus shot cuz you will bleed!

Your truck is rolling, a$$-kicking art. Whats another $3k? (Besides: mortgage, insurance, groceries, utilities, ....)

ok so monday morning ill be calling and making the order for my gears and lockers, its gonna be a full install kit and 4:88 gears from Nitro gears, and f/r ARBs. i was thinking about having nitro gear do the install, but im now thinking im gonna try and tackle this myself. i know i can do the rears, and im gonna let the father inlaw do the front, but i have a few tricks up my sleeve for the front that im gonna incorporate. some have suggested issues with the diff drop, and not lubing the pinion bearing and seal after that. i think this mainly comes into play with new gear setups and fresh bearings and seals. also the thicker ring gear no longer "slings" oil directly up on the pinion seal and bearing, as well as the ARB locker will require more fluid than the stock, so im gonna try something i think will help with this.

I know I'll be curious how the front locker holds up, performs, and how you do on CV's running PNW trails. That rig should be unstoppable

Well apparently I don't need lockers... I showed up to fjc with rear lockers, and a JK Rubicon this weekend... While the JK made the trail it took him twice as long as me and several more attempts. I did manage to blow another rear shock, and break a headlight as well as bend up my ARB bumper, and wrinkle my front right fender... Not too happy about any of that. Just the price we pay to play. I'm hoping to get the fender fixed without paint work. But I am now in the market for a sunfire red pearl front right(passenger) fender and trim bezel below the headlight. Also a good 99 & newer headlight on the right side.

I watched a partial video of your run and it looked like my style too - stab it and steer it.

Holy cow! Open diffs and all. Your poor tires hated you towards the top, but made for a good show!

You guys had quite a crowd up there too.
