im not convinced that's true.
it goes against everything ive read, and have been told.
unfortunately for some unknown reason my copy/paste feature suddenly doesn't work.
but, again and still, everything im reading says a coolant temp around 210 makes the most power, and is the most efficient.

do not ever use an open flame near a fuel tank.... ever. that is all.

Nothing beats experience. Hope nothing too bad happened. However, in lieu of such, Mensa may not be renewing your membership for the upcoming year.

so yeah dropped the tank, opened it up, pulled the old pump out drained what was left, shop vacced the remainder and any little debris. then i washed off all the dirt and crap off the outside and got it ready to paint. then rinsed the tank with water inside and out, and drained it, vacced again let set out side all day and over night. got up this morning to paint and put the new pump in it. just before painting it i took a small propane torch to heat the metal up a little to help the paint bond and get the temps up as a ran the flame over the opening in the tank, whaaboom i was caught in the middle of a explosive fire ball. it was a flash and done but whow was it power full, i was leaning over the tank and the force of the flash pushed me up and blew my hat off.

you came out ok then, not everybody lives through that kind of mistake. Bet you wont do that again!! Any kind of container that once held petroleum products is a high risk for welding, cutting or flame. Even if it's been drained, even cleaned a few times, it's still a bomb. It's the vapor that is explosive, not the liquid.

yeah... well i figured after rinsing it out and leaving it out and open for a good 20+hrs it should be no issue, guess not. but good news is the flash fire evaporated any water that may have stayed in the tank lol so i know it was free of moisture when i put it back together... and thankfully the tank was all open so there was no way for the tank to build pressure and actually explode

Hey Kid, could have been a lot worse! We lost a local muffler shop a couple years ago to the same thing. Big boom! My dad did heavy truck & AG equipment repairsfor years. There was a lot of welding going on at the shop, and every time he was welding a fuel tank he would fill them completely with water while welding on them. Even if they had been rinsed out & sitting empty for days. You're a lucky man!

oh it runs in the family i guess... my wifes grandfather used to check for gas leaks with a match... i guess we are slowly evolving lol

Glad you're ok, save some hair.
I had a similiar experiance with an electric start propane bbq. hiss.... click, click, click, click,... hmmm... leaving it on I fiddled with starter, click click...fireball, no hair on my arm left nearest the BBQ. Probably fortunate my head wasnt over it.

starting in on my 1st gen roll bar mod... im gonna take some ideas i have seen from others here like [MENTION=67615]Dirtco[/MENTION], and adapt them to my roll bar/storage system. the key things im looking for in my setup is storage space/organisation for both 4wheeling gear and search & rescue gear, as well as camping and day trips with the family -so it must be versatile, and leave room for the dog in the back -80lb english lab. i have several ideas but im just not sure how to make them work. if the first gen bar ends up not working for me, it will short me about 3" of space up top (the top of the bar is ~35" and the roof line is ~38". so if i need that 3" ill be ditching the factory roll bar and making my own -the advantages of that will be i can actually make it strong enough to be a true roll bar, and will tie it into the frame. stay tuned guys....

so i have entered the LED bar club... i picked up a 50" curved bar today at a SAR convention im attending -taking a bunch of Bill Burke classes. i got it wired in tonight but am gonna have to figure out some mounting brackets... i know i have said the 50s are too big imo but the price was hard to argue with.

just bought a set of MTRs for the runner, gotta dump the bighorns. way too many issues this time around. the MTRs met my criteria, same size same load rating, and actually were cheaper than the bighorns(found some coupon codes). i hope the MTRs will serve me well. at least i know i cant go any worse at this point.

You will have to give me your honest opinion after 1000 miles or so. My Toyo MT's are half gone and heavy as hell. Although the MTR's are heavy too. Love the look of them though!
