The Retrofit Source > DDM

While I agree that pictures should be added to this thread if he IS getting money for this, it was an offer that he came across and took advantage of. I feel that OP should put some more work into the thread, but at the same time, if it's, in the seller's eyes, good, it should be left up to them on whether or not to pay him, not up to you guys flaming him or complaining that you didn't get the offer.
Per the T4R rules:

Please, if you would, for the sake of the 4th gen section, quit arguing the semantics of the post title...
Code:
It could be for either:
a. Getting the money for the write-up.
b. Actual belief about it.
...and your reasons on why you think the write-up is bad.
If the thread is going to continue to get flamed... Could we please just get the thread locked/removed?

OP, the same goes for you. Although you were initially flamed, you did return fire.

Thanks for the refresher, but I don't think anyone posted anything violating the rules, hence why the thread is still open. The thread opened itself up to criticism when the OP admitted that he made it under the auspices of being paid. And yeah, like I said before a few times, I agree that it's TRS's prerogative if they want to pay him, though I'm fully entitled to express my discontent at TRS and that action as a whole.

I just don't think writing up a plug n play HID kit deserves 50 bucks. I don't hold it against you because I totally would have done the same thing, but I do think it reflects poorly on TRS as others have stated. Just my 2 cents..

Just to reiterate, I did say that I do NOT hold it against OP.

Anyway,

To be clear: I was not directing specifically to you, the posts throughout this thread seem to flame OP, thus being hateful. I just don't find it fair to OP that they are getting heat for taking up a deal on the offer.

THIS PART IS VERY IMPORTANT: I don't know how any of you meant it, and pretty much anyone won't, because this is the internet: Body language and vocal tone don't apply here, so it can be and usually is very hard to tell. I also don't know how OP took this. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the general tone (literary, not vocal) of the replies to the thread, as a lot of them don't seem like constructive criticism, but merely condescending. Once again, this is in no way specific to you [MENTION=55855]zopperman[/MENTION] (You were just the last post in the thread, sorry! :tape2:) or not to anyone in the thread. It just seems like it's repetitive and pointless to make snide comments on OP's payment for this review/write-up like is being done. I'm done posting, however, as I'm beginning to become hypocritical in my advocacy of stopping the flaming/arguing. I just thought some of these things needed to be cleared up, as I may have originally come of as rude and blame-y (That needs to become a word, the new "selfie," maybe? :becky: ).

Sorry if I fanned the flames!

First you need to know what tires to get.

i think you need to know how much air you want to run in the tires before you can pick tire, which is before you can pick a size, which is before you can pick a brand of lift which is after you buy the cool stickers.

How big of a tire can I fit on a 3in lift? I NEED TO KNOW THIS!!!!!!!

Come on guys, tire size doesn't matter. It's all about rim size. Nothing says cool like a set of 22s.

Just for reference I have expos with the ato shackle flip..

Instant horsepower increase as well.

Honestly the trs products is good, i run them in my truck, but this thread is useless without pics, and its a shame they would give you 50 bucks for a halfass install. Some of us here do own and install a complete setup from trs, but this thread is really halfass with no pics. To all other true trs users on this forum, we shouldnt post pics of our work in this thread so he can get credit.

I'm VERY skeptical as to whether TRS would offer such a thing. MAYBE they were referring to actually writing up a retrofit (taking apart your headlights, drilling out the holes, etc etc). PnP kits, well, anyone can wire crap up, no offense. This day in age, doing a "write up" should include details and PICTURES. If I were offering clients money (or credit), I'd want a detailed how-to.

DDM: If you are satisfied with their products, that's great. You are in the minority.

TRS: They've recently expanded so I would wager that customer service could take a hit. That doesn't mean they sell crap. Their stuff is top notch which is why you pay a premium. I deal with them for my retros on both of my vehicles. (in fact I'm ordering a new set of Osram's CBIs for my Civic. My 4Runner uses CBIs, awesome bulb.............. [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION] : Still using the ones you sent, you were right, they were a tad dim, but now they are really dim).

Ed, i swapped over to the svs 2 months ago, i tell you this, its a lil brighter and warmer to me, usually that works best in your area since u have snow, but now its broken in with 55hours of use, its pretty white, just warmer color. Now you know the new version of the svs is called nightbreakers. So glad u like the cbi, i do run them at 5five ballast. So how much dimmer did the cbi got compared to the new bulbs you have?

The CBIs I have in my runner are in the TL projector. Output is pretty epic, I love them. The older CBIs you sent me were a tad dim, but they have gotten noticeably dim. When you look at them head on, they seem normal brightness, but believe me, doing down the interstate my lights get washed out by halogen lights................... yikes!! Don't forget my Civic's have RX projectors (light spread not as wide as the TLs). The nightbreakers seem to be the brightest HID bulb out there, I might give them a try (still haven't purchased a bulb yet, so..........).

Thanks for the heads up your experience with them!

It appears they were formed June 2005. Close enough to round to a 'decade'.

Wow, almost 10 years! I wish they were around when I installed HIDs in my Surfs. I had to use a PnP. "Retrofitting" was soo exotic back then (2003ish). Nobody sold anything except HID bulbs/ballast. Projectors? Forget it, you had to gut an OEM headlight to get them out and fab everything yourself. Only true DIYer's dared to do this back then. Of course, my memory fails me from time to time, if there was a company that offered the hardware to retrofit, then I was unaware of it.

Matt still wasn't selling anything in '05 so there was no business to give him. For those that have been around that long he first started doing retros using paper towels and duct tape back in '05...he started selling knockoff parts in late '06 / early '07 and stepped his game up to where it is now.

Started from the bottom......Deuces yo! :painkiller:
