The stock seats are terrible *long* also a TLDR

I'm 6ft 5in. Disabled vet with a slew of joint, nerve, pain, and circulation issues. I find the stock seats to be quite comfortable no matter the trip duration. In fact the only vehicle more comfortable for me than this was a 06 sienna that I inherited a few years back.

They could use more bolstering for off roading but that's my only real complaint.

If your used to luxury german car seats and it's that important to you I would say you bought the wrong vehicle. A LC, GX, RX, X5, Q5, all would be better options for you.

You bought a Off Road specific vehicle and not a very expensive one at that. So it looks like you should trade or get a custom seat.

The Audi S3 was my first entry level German sporty car. It took a little while to get the right seat arrangement in it as well. Maybe that’s all I need is up break the seat in some more.

I didn’t notice it during test drive nor really driving 6+ hours down to Destin FL. I’m not sure why it started after that. Drove back down to the coast and picked up a Gobi stealth rack and the discomfort started while driving down there and back. It’s more of a pain than a cramp but could be partially due to being dehydrated maybe. I can get 4 fingers between the seat and the back of my knee and this is what I think is giving me problems.
Mine where annoyingly stiff at first. I thought it was going to be a problem.

But now they are comphy. Just break them in alittle.

Sciatica is your main culprit.
Without addressing that, there's not much to do for the 5th gen unless you spend money to guinea pig a new seat bottom.

Interesting to note that your S3 didn't have any issues causing sciatica to flare up.
I have a few coworkers with sciatica, and they do a host of weird stretches and movements to bring some relief. One drives a current model XC90, and the other a Lexus ct200h. Both of those cars have decent seats as well.

In my 3rd gen Taco I'd get a leg cramp every day on the way to work (45min-1hr)....drove 33hours straight on a trip to the North rim of the Grand Canyon recently in the T4R...then another couple thousand miles over the next week...zero leg cramps. T4R seats work for me....but there are probably people that have no issues with the Tacoma's seats either so it may just be one of those things.

I have to agree that the DS in the 4R isn’t great but it’s not terrible either. I much prefer the seat in my Tundra though. The two things that make me SMH in the 4R is the lack of auto headlights and the position of the window switches in the 4R.

I had a 2007 tundra and loved it. I’m not really a pickup truck person but the thought of the new body style and that big hp motor was too good to pass up. Course I traded it towards a Subaru STi a couple years later haha

The seats did take a bit of messing around with to get comfortable on long trips. But it is all good now. My wife has a bit of an issue with the passenger seat, I wish it had the same five-way or whatever positions the driver's has. But she makes it work since she has more freedom to move around than if driving.

Surprisingly, everyone loves the rear seat, lol.

I’ve somewhat been comfortable more or less the past day or so. Raised the whole seat up higher and raised the front up to touch the bottom of my thighs. Then leaned the back further than normal so I kind of sit back as much as possible. It wouldn’t work for off-roading or anything but, everyday driving it seems to work a bit. Still get a little pain or cramping every now and then but it’s nothing like it was.

Will probably go see a chiropractor soon though and see if I can get some sciatic relief.

I like the seats in the 4runner.

Then again, I like the seats of all the vehicles that I have purchased in the past.

I make it a habit of sitting in all the seats of the vehicle prior to purchasing whether its at the auto show, or at the dealers lot, or in my friends vehicles.

If i'm not comfy, I pass on the purchase.

That’s why I cannot buy one with a sunroof. The only way I am remotely comfortable between the seat and gas pedal movement is to have the seat up as high as possible. I don’t understand why the gas pedal has such awkward movement. iirc, feels like you have to push down to the floor rather than out towards the firewall, which is like any other vehicle I have ever driven, including Toyotas.

I have the seat as high as possible but the seat isn't deep enough to give thigh support to take pressure off the knee. It also doesnt fo back far enough to straighten your legs, and even if it went back far enough the steering wheel doesnt telescope out enough for that to be comfortable.

I like the width, I have good lumbar support, I like the softness.... but the seat needs to be deeper

13+ Hour Drive

I just finished up a trip that put 1700+ miles on my new 4Runner in 52 hours. We did the drive home in one shot which was 13 hours. My girlfriend and I were both stiff and achy by the end of it, but I think that would happen in most cars after sitting in the seat for 13 hours, not really able to move. I didn't have an issue with the comfort of the seats during the trip. I also have no complaints for day-to-day driving in them either. They certainly aren't luxury seats, but they work for me. :)

We just got back from a road trip to Estes Park, CO from Dallas, TX. About 14 hours each way in the 4Runner (mostly because hauling a trailer added a bunch of gas stops and slower speeds).

My wife hated being in the passenger seat. I was okay in the driver's seat. It was far less comfortable than our Nissan NV3500 passenger van. The kids are also not a huge fan of the seats in the back. Granted this is the cloth seating in the SR5, but I don't think the pleather (or whatever Toyota calls it) in the Premium models are much better. I'm sure the Limited has much better seats.

Wish there were better seats in our 4Runner. My wife hates taking long trips in it. The only thing I can think of that I would change in this vehicle (besides having an option for a locking diff in the 3rd row models, like ours!)

Otherwise, I love it.
