Yeah, they haven't changed a lot at all visually. But honestly, the 5th gen styling still hasn't grown on me yet. 3rd and 4th gens are both still really nice looking to me, and I'm sure I'll get used to the 5th gen, but for now I still prefer 4th.

It's okay. Just ran into a girl (pretty hot actually) rocking an 88 T4R! It was red and MINT. We were admiring each others rides (bodies?). :lmao:
I actually really like the 2nd gen. I had a V6 5SPD back in the day. GAWD it was slow.

Actually, I have a 4th generation but I like the 3rd generation styling just as much. In order of preference I like 4th, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 5th.

I'm right along there with you, for stock... BUT if you throw a 3" lift and some MT's, it all changes to 4th, 5th, 3rd, 1st, and 2nd. If I ever upgrade to a 5th I would never leave it stock, looks like a minivan to me

I think the 5th gen looks like a return to a more truck like 4Runner and resembles a 3rd gen a bit around the edges. I like all 4Runners but 4th gens seemed a bit soft and looked more comfortable on the street than tearing it up off road in showroom trim. 4th gens still look nice but sometimes they need a little help. The 4th gens didn't appeal to the off road crowd as much as other gens and it's evident when I wheel in Colorado the 4th gens are very far and inbetween. I do see a lot of FJs on the trail along with lots of Jeeps and older Toyotas seem to dominate our skinny trails.
The problem I have with the 4th and 5th gen was the quality control seemed to slip a bit in the whole Toyota line during the last 10 years and the 3rds still seem better built and are aging pretty well for a 14 year old design. With the 4th gen those '03s with the seemingly endless expanse of plastic (ala Jeep GCs) are starting to look kinda crappy and look quite dated when compared to even just an '05.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that. I thought I was imagining things. Btw seeing a first gen in excellent shape is a great thing.

When you mention plastic do you mean the gray bumper cladding? I love it! It helps me identify fellow '03 owners. Haha! I have the "b" package upgrade that was only available in '03. Anyone care to guess at what that was?

The early production years of any body style leave a lot to be desired compared the the last model years. This is not Toyota specific.
It's neat to be the first person on the block with the all new _____. Give it a few years and you're still driving the dated version. It's nice to have the best of a body style, even years after that body style was not produced.
Compare a '67 to a '72 Chevy pickup or a '03 to an '08 2500-3500 Ram. A lot of improvements occur during a production run.
