The Tesla Model 3 completely blew me away

I did, thank you!! You're my third referral so (supposedly) I'm now eligible for a 1-week rental of a Model S or Model X. My GF and I are thinking of how we want to use it. Possibly a long weekend road trip up to wine country?

Hope you're enjoying the car. My poor 4Runner sees very little use these days. I drove it in to work today just give it some weekly exercise. I may even decide to sell it...

Yeah its been great I already have over 300 miles on the odometer. In contrast, the CTR took like 2 months for me to log 200 miles. I still have use for the 4Runner to transport my dogs and when there might be potential for flash floods. My IS300 on the other hand had been sitting ever since I got the Model 3. I had to remember to drive it last Monday just to keep it in the rotation. Its still smooth and fun to throw around since its RWD but it was just as I thought, I wouldn't use it as much after the Model 3 took over.

Still trying to get used to the whole regenerative braking, TACC, and auto steer (whenever I do use it). I feel like there is so much head room just because of the open roof. I just ordered a Qi charger mat and had full front PPF installed yesterday. Next up will be heat blocking tint. I saw some people getting the optional keyfob but $150 is hard to stomach for a keyfob. I also got my shipment notice for the maxpider kagu weather mats. The only other things I want are wheels and suspension mods but I'm already in so much for the car that those cosmetic changes can wait. There's also the front chin spoiler and rear trunk spoiler. I'd rather spend the mod money on my 4th gen though. I still want the rotrex and headers lol.

Trying to commit myself to washing the car every 2-3 weeks to keep the edges of the PPF clean and prevent any build up in hard to reach areas.

I used summon to pull the car out and repark it in the garage haha. It was kind of scary since I had to move it another 4 inches inward after it initially stopped. I pulled it back in and cleaned all the jambs too. I'm guessing you have to put the wipers in service mode to properly clean under them. One of the easiest cars I've ever washed, thanks to the aero dynamics, most of the dirt was in the back. I sped the video up from 60 mins to 2 mins.

I could not hold out any longer, I just ordered a Model 3 Long Range / Dual Motor to replace my aging commuter sedan.

4Runner of course isn't going anywhere.

Tesla what if

So I have a question?
If you pull into 98% of the parking lots in the world and your Tesla battery is completely dead when you come back to your car, where do you put your key to open the door to get your phone you let on the passenger seat?
Or here is a worse scenario you wreck your Tesla. It catches on fire (never heard this happen to a Tesla) which will probably not be put out until it and everything inside of it is very crispy even if the fire department shows up. The people around you are idiots and try to open the doors and do not think about breaking the window until you are toast and the windows break themselves.
Just curious.

I'll resurrect this thread.

1) The only way you'll come back to your car in a parking lot with a dead battery is if you leave it there a LONG time.. I'm talking weeks. "Vampire drain" is pretty minimal; usually about 1% charge per day. So if you plan to leave it at the airport for a month, just make sure you charge it up before you go.

Teslas do have something called Sentry Mode which records motion from the cameras and stores it on a USB stick. You may have seen videos of this on the internet of Tesla owners busting people who ding their cars in parking lots and leave. Sentry Mode uses a lot of power but it's automatically disabled at 20%. And if you're really worried, you can just disable Sentry Mode altogether.

There is no mechanical key on a Model 3. The backup key is a credit card with an NFC chip in it. If the battery is truly gone, you can pop the small cover for the tow hook off the front bumper and you'll find wires inside which you can connect to a 12V source. That'll be enough to get the doors open.

2) The Tesla is no more likely to become a giant fireball than an ICE vehicle full of flammable petroleum-based products. I wouldn't worry about getting burnt to a crisp.

I personally think the model 3 look like a piece of crap especially parked next to my 4runner.

No reason you can't like both, its basically old school vs the future, and I think both have a place in this world. I don't even try to compare them.

But if you really want to throw punches... My Toyota stock looks like crap parked next to my Tesla stock.

Agree, except I still think the T4R looks great in its own way. Having owned both a model 3 and 4Runner, I can say they're both awesome cars with different pros and cons. One could argue that a fully electric car that can drive itself, has luxury features standard, receives software updates regularly, and is extraordinarily safe shouldn't be cheaper than a 5-speed SUV . But I wouldn't be that person. Heck, I'm in the market for a TRD Pro right now, with our second car most likely going to be a model 3 or Y later this year.

If Bitcoin and Ethereum go on one more run, I'l buying a Model S. I'll keep the 4R and the Jeep but I'll probably give the 4R to my friend eventually. The Teslas are just a stunning experience to drive.

I'd love to hear from any EV owners on what their feelings have been towards EV charging range for longer trips.

I just came back from a trip to Lake Tahoe (~3 hours from here) and was baffled at how much battery charge was lost over the course of the trip.

An 80 mile drive uphill sucked about ~220 "miles" from the charge.

I love the idea of an EV to putt around town, but they still seem to be pretty inefficient where any sort of grades are involved.
