The Turbo Rock Lobster

I pulled the rear diff tonight so i could swap it with a complete diff with a Lockright i picked up for $100. After it was all apart, i realized that the new diff was a older 4 cylinder diff and not the V6 that comes in the 3rd gen. While it was apart, i discovered that the rear wheel bearings that i did less than 20k miles ago are effed :redbrick:. I know they were done properly so i think i may have some bent axle shafts.

Looking like its time for a rear E-locker and the FROR full float setup. I'd like to apologize in advance to my bank account.

Steeze

Throw that diff in and run it. It will handle anything you put it through for a while. I've been running 4cyl diffs with 38's in my 85 and dual cases and never had a problem. Do the FROR full float and save up while you search for an Elocker.

Just my 2 cents:driving:

I may end up doing that. The only real weak part about the 4 cyl diff is that fact that is a 2 pinion instead of a 4 pinion like the V6. But since its got a lockright, that doesn't matter anymore

This is a very clean high bumper great lines! 10 f'N 10!!

Is that tire on a single upright? please tell me you plan on some gussets/triangulation before you start bouncing that on the trails??? Otherwise its a great start, what spindle do you plan on using for the swing out? Is it just tacked in place right now?

Already done. It is triangulated on both sides of the upright. That was a picture of the mock up. It was just tacked to the bumper so i could figure out where to put the tire. Swing out pieces are in the mail.

Sweet, looking forward to seeing the finished product.:naughty:

I guess i should update this.

Bumper/Tire carrier is pretty much how i want it for now. It will never be done but i think it will suffice for awhile. I ended up putting in way more hours than i anticipated but whatever. 1st fab projects are gonna do that i guess.

On to pictures

The bottom catch will be redone. Gonna make my own and will also double as a bottle opener :D

The incredibly overly complicated hinge. The heims make the pitch of the carrier adjustable. That was something i was fighting with on the 1st hinge i did. The pin on top locks the carrier in the open position.

Short video of the latch. Damn garage kept it from opening all the way.

Next up is to add a hitch receiver and some lights on it.

Nice. I do like my heims to adjust the pitch. Fab work takes a lot more time than most think. I have dragged my latch catch but I didn't use the stock one, I built my own. It is ramped to slide down the rocks.

Sexy

Took advantage of the TRS Thanksgiving sale and picked up the Morimoto Mini D2S Retro kit. Should have a 2nd pair of headlights this week to start the retro.
