The Turbo Rock Lobster

Any duals updates? How are duals while daily driving? No driveline vibes or anything?

No issues at all. It's like they aren't even there until you shift to low. I had a little vibration at first since the rear driveshaft got shorter and the angle got steeper. I adjusted my upper links and that took care of it and has been good ever since!

Turbo updates coming soon :D

Yes partners at RTI.
Took a quick peek at the truck this afternoon since I had to run something to Mastermind. I missed it at first though since I was distracted by the turbo truck. You should expect an email from me shortly, I have some sliders I need welded together and to the truck.

For sure! I'm guessing you stopped by while Kirk and I were out running some errands?

I didn't have time to stop and get out of the truck, put I did pull up next to the lobster, gaze at it longingly for a minute, then had to move along. Probably around 2 or so.

Probably time to update ye olde build thread.

If you have been following this thread, you know some pretty major changes have happened to the Lobster.

The TRD Supercharger was pulled off and sold. It was time to get a little crazy with boost.

The specs for this setup are:
Holset HX35 turbo
URD FTC piggyback
315cc Supra injectors
Custom built manifolds and exhaust
Intercooler, piping, silicone couplers, and clamps from FrozenBoost.com
Greddy BOV
3 inch Turbo-back exhaust with a Borla XR-1 muffler.

That build thread covers the build of the turbo setup so i'm just going to let the pictures do the talking in here.

I'm uploading a few more videos now.

Right now, i need to get the bumper and skids back on, Get an AC line made, finish the exhaust as it just dumps after the muffler, and get some tuning done.

The difference between the S/C and this is pretty incredible. The S/C never seemed slow even with all the armor, 35's, and the 4.10 gears. However, it didn't feel much faster(if any) than a stock 4Runner. Even now before the tuning, it will throw you back in the seat.

Once i get it road tuned, i'm going to set up a time with a buddy who owns a shop with a Dyno. It will be cool to see some real numbers.

Please elaborate... I'm sure you have the reasons. But in order to fit larger tires that's the last resort... Comments?

.

It sits a little too tall and raising up the bumpers to match puts more leverage on the mounts. I don't regret it but i think i would do a 1 inch if i were to do it over again.

Few minor updates

After driving and tuning the turbo setup for a few weeks, i came to the conclusion that the HX35 is a little bigger than i want. These things are meant to push 40psi through a diesel so running it 8-10 was giving a lot of lag.

I decided to swap to the smaller turbo we had sitting on the shelf. Now its running a HX30W which is originally on a 4BT Cummins and it is way more responsive. I can nail it in 4th gear at 1500rpm and build 8psi in a few seconds and it will peak at about 10psi.

I do still think the HX35 is a good setup but it would be better suiting to a higher reving motor and i'm much happier with the smaller turbo.

Also, I didn't mention this yet but i decided to sell the ODL bumper and will be building a new one which should be done by this time next week. The ODL would have fit with some minor trimming but i figured it was worth more if i didn't cut it and i've wanted to build my own front bumper for a while now.

I'll leave you with a picture of the engine bay and the smaller turbo

I guess that explains why I saw you running around without one yesterday.
