I've spent my fair share of time puttering around cars and trucks, mostly old iron. With my daughter starting college, we figured that it was time to pass a car along, and get something new for my wife.

She'd owned an Gen 2 4Runner some time ago, and I really like the looks of the Gen 5's, so we decided to pull the trigger on a new vehicle.

Having built out my dream '72 Chevy K-20 with a Cummins 5.9 12 valve, I want to build something that is along the same lines of comfort and durability. We started with a '17 TRD Off-Road Premium.

Took it off-road a bit today, just to test things out, and I'm very happy so far. I have an idea of where I'd like to go with this, but we'll wait and see how things pan out.

Do not get to close to that brush or you will get a lot of desert pin stripping. It is 110 degrees in Lake Havasu AZ today and it probably is hot in Surprise also.

Sweet! I had my wife look at the Trail when she was getting a new car. She thought it was too tall, and got a Range Rover....

She's going to hate my TRD Pro, which is the plan.

All I can say is...WOW!

I had a 71 in high school, complete with the big tires and all, had a 454 in it. One of the best looking truck models.

Congrats on the build. I got a lot of help with mine over on 67-72chevytrucks.com, they've got a bunch of great guys in their diesel conversion section. If you haven't stumbled across it, take a little bit of time and look through some of the builds.

Question: I read the build thread but maybe missed it; is there a reason why the hood is tilted up the way it is?

Honestly, it's mainly because my AC lines are rubbing against the hood, causing some resistance when I try to put the hood down. Combine that with weak hood springs.. well, you've seen the pictures.
