Ive had all three early gens, none ran when i picked them up. All were less than 500 bucks, !st gen is the only one worthy of Trail use.

The 1st gen is generally more reliable, cheaper to rebuild engine, easier to work on if needed.

For the ignorant 1st gen owners, the 2nd gen had the same engine options as the 1st, minus the awesomeness that was the 20R in 85.

I bought my 2nd gen because I didn't do my research. I can't say it is all bad though, because I have learned a lot from this truck. I have also made my 3.slow run again. It is not a small thing after what happened to my engine, but I gave life to it. If I buy another 4runner, it will be a first or a 3rd gen. But the 2nd gen taught me so much, I will never forget it.

Ok so honestly all I've gotten out of this is that footofgod is awesome and that most first gen owners have no clue what they are missing with all the nice stuff the 2gen came with. Oh and that none of you have to drive around kids.

2nd gen ownership comes standard with lingering thoughts while your 3.0 strands you, such as "Why, WHY did i have to go with '90-'95. I could've had a topless truck with a great looking body, or a '96 or later with a desirable drivetrain!!"
