There was a run on '08 4runners this weekend

Apparently..a lot them got sold last week. It's almost impossible to find a low mile (<40K) V8 2wd or 4wd White 4runner.

Every CPO unit I have tried to look at has been sold--even those that aren't certified on Ebay and Craigslist.

It seems odd, at least to me, to see so many of the same car moving that fast from so many dealers all at once.

It means that I have initiated contact with dealers all up and down the east coast in an attempt to purchase a White or Silver low mileage '07-'09 CPO V8 4wd 4Runner, and every one was sold over the weekend. There have been at least 10 cars I have contacted dealers about and they all sold. Seems like for a few weeks there were several dozen sitting out there, and then all of a sudden they were all gone.

2 weeks ago, I purchased an '08 white 4runner SR5 V8 4wd CPO but it ended up having title and mechanical problems--and the dealer repurchased it from me. I'm trying to replace it with the same vehicle.

Don't see many 3rd Gen 4Runners for sale up this way at all. I swear there were a lot last year when I was searching for mine.

Not seeing a lot of 4ths either.

Nothing like having a solid vehicle (not a Jeep Compass) when the used car market is hot.

Maybe since gas prices are going back up..I'll see a few more. Found 2 that I somehow missed.

I emailed about them tonight and will see if they are still there tomorrow. Closest one is 350 miles from my house.

There's a bunch of V6's around my area for sale, but no V8's.

Maybe theyre rare,...maybe people love em and hold on to them.

Either way, im sure there's no "conspiracy" or alien abduction of 4Runners.

No..just an odd coincidence. I find I really like the SR5 4runner V8/4wd better than the limited...which makes it even more difficult to find the one i want.

I'll not voice an opinion but a quick search on autotrader.com of certified 2007 - 2009 4Runners in a 500 mile radius of 10016 produces 797 hits. I didn't look in detail but a bunch were v8 and low miles.

I actually prefer the textured gray plastic trim over the painted ones.

I own one of both, an 03 with the plastic, and i think its great looking.

Lastly, its obvious im a proponent of the V8's (i even just shelled out over $1300 for the infamous 90k service + new timing belt + new water pump), but keep looking for what you want! Dont give in and buy one you didnt TRULY want, cuz when you DO see one either on the lot or drive by, that "feeling" in the pit of your stomach and the "buyer's remorse" is a b*tch to deal with

The details are the important part. Sure..they are a lot of 2 wd v6's available. But specify V8,4wd, CPO, white, <40 k miles and a sunroof...and the availability changes dramatically.

It happened again today. Found a 43K mile, 2008 CPO silver SR5 V8 4x4 with a sunroof in St Augustine, Fl. Called them about it today: "It just sold yesterday or the day before".

Why did I not see the ad until AFTER it sold? And I've been looking there as well.

Heard my new favorite BS line from a salesman today. Called about a 2008 CPO White V8 4x4 Limited with 15K miles. I knew what they were asking ($32.9K), but called and asked a salesman anyway. He said "36.9K". I asked him how much it was brand new? He said .."Ohhh..WELL into the 40's". Me: "Well yeah..but its 4 model years old now". Him: "But it only has a a year and half of mileage on it"
