These ads are brutal...

I know the site isn't free and advertising is a must...but is there anything that can be done? It's killing my browser speed. I'm a member of about a dozen various forums and this one has been the worst for performance, mainly due to the google-based ads. I'd like to stick around - seems like a good group of people, but it's killing me. I feel like I'm back on a 56k modem. :smashputer:

I have to agree that the extensive ads do tend to bring the site to a stand still at times while most of the other time its just plain slow. A necessary evil for keeping such a popular site free.

Don't know if its possible but maybe an ad free version for paid subscribers!! If so put me on the list! (depending on the price of course)

Or if you use Mozilla, you could just install AdBlock the extension. I've seen minimal ads on the right hand side of the screen and no reduced speeds.

Yep - I discovered adblockplus this morning and it's wonderful! Back to normal speeds now! :zoom:

It's not just the ads, the social media tie-ins slow it down a bunch too.

Any one having any problems with virus alerts? This morning my av started going crazy every time I visit this site, and only this site. It keeps blocking a url redirect.

I got on at school this morning and it redirected on the school comps, so it's not just my computer.

The facebook buttons and such at the bottom of each post, the "products discussed by members" bar, the bot or whatever it is that likes to run around and turn random words like tires into hyperlinks...

My Adblock doesn't block those. If yours does, I'll go check my settings.

Was slow but now faster

This is the only website that I ever visit on the internet where I experienced this bogging down. This site kills your computer unless you change some settings to block the attack of all the ads. I was about to leave the site for good until I discovered the InPrivate Filtering settings and chose to Block All. Little box at the bottom right of my screen or in the Tools tab at the top. It was taking me 40 seconds or so to go from one page to another in a thread. Now it is immediate.
