I`m glad Colorado has "make my day law", any intruder in my house will receive buck shot in the face and I`d not have to finish him off after that. teenager or adult I don`t give a rat`s ass. Loaded Benelly under the bed and 17 hollow points in my Beretta, Intruders welcome, if I miss (highly unlikely) my wife will finish with her Glock.

You 100% stand behind some guy you don't know who executed two people, dragged them to a spot in his basement. Went on about his day, not bothering to call the police, slept in bed, etc and called the cops to brag about it the next day?

ha our justice system put 15 year olds in prison for life on the daily, what makes you think i care what age and gender criminals are, hundreds of innocent people die in the world and stupid people get all pissed because 2 little $hits get killed from breaking in houses. me and my bullets don't discriminate.

i don't think anyone here WANTS to kill or shoot another human being....i know for the love of god i hope i never have to...i cannot think of anything worse, justified or not....and just to be clear though, i think the way this guy did things he should be charged with something, the whole thing seems premeditated to a certain extent....and the word execution has been dropped a number of times....i'm not comfortable supporting this guys actions, but do think every state should have a castle doctrine and as an American citizen you should have a right to defend your life and property with any reasonable force necessary....i mean is it that hard to figure out what's reasonable?
criminals are taking a known risk before they break into someones home, the same as a skydiver or any activity where there is a risk of death, you are actively participating in something that can get you killed, I'm sure sky divers and thieves are both well aware of the risk, yet you don't have skydivers families suing parachute makers when they fail to open or are not packed right, as it's within reason to assume the individual was taking a known risk and was aware of the dangers from the get go, who gives a crap what their motives are or why they did it,(in reference to the whole "needing help thing") they made a choice and either suffered the consequences or reaped the rewards , much like drunk driving it's only a matter of time till someone ends up dead.......
honestly i don't think these criminals should have any rights in this case, but that's also not saying that the home owner couldn't be charged with something like, say, negligence or excessive use of force, for how he reacted, or over reacted in this case...but i wouldn't leave a pathway open for lawsuits and the rest from surviving family members and such that's ridiculous ...in this particular case though a murder charge may be in order, the whole execution thing isn't cool....as by that point the immediate danger to your life has kind of passed.....it seems if you got them on their knees you could just as easily tie them up or something... and to be really honest i don't know enough here to make any real statement as what should happen to this guy, but do believe if someone is breaking into your house and they get shot dead with in reason there should be no repercussions to the home owner.....

By doing what? Torturing them? Bullet to the kneecap before they bleed out? Bamboo under the fingernails? Make them watch a Vin Diesel movie with you?
You would have done worse after you found out it was an unarmed, drug-using teenager who posed little threat? And after being shot, poses none whatsoever? Did you put a lot of thought into that post?
Once again, you can use the force necessary to protect yourself. Bang. Assailant/intruder is down. No more threat (unless you can articulate that an 18-year-old girl with at least one bullet in her, lying on your basement stairs bleeding to death, is still a threat - good luck with that).
If you do something after that beyond calling 911, YOU become the aggressor because it's no longer an issue of "self-defense." Courts have held this opinion for a looooong time. This is why police officers get smacked for excessive force when they continue to take action against someone who is no longer a threat to them - like someone who turns and starts to run away (unless they're a felon who poses a danger to others - different rules, there).
Switching topics - as far as tactical advantage, if you're in a corner in your own basement with guns, my opinion is that you don't really need an escape route. Not given the high probability that the intruder is like the vast majority of burglars: unarmed opportunist, interested in taking things without getting caught, and not too bright.
They basically can't do squat to you before any 911 responder can arrive.
My tactic would be to aim in on the door, rack the action on my 870, and make some noise. I think you will hear running feet and a few crashes as they fall over furniture, each other, and whatever else is in the way to get the hell away from your house. Not pretty and doesn't sound as cool as saying I'd make them "beg for as bullet," (??) but my goal would be for these folks to GTFO - not to make everyone on the internet admire my self-claimed proclivity to violence.
If they're the 1% of home invaders that are not deterred by that or by hearing the homeowner say "I'm calling 911," then you haven't given up much. Yeah, they know you're in the basement, but they also know you're armed and you're still aimed in on the door. That will also help justify any action you need to take after that ("Your Honor, my client indicated that he had a firearm AND announced that he was calling the police...")
Would I worry about them coming back because they hold a "grudge?" Um, they probably won't go anywhere NEAR my house, ever again. Having to change your drawers after being in someone's gun sight tends to do that to people.

Perfectly stated! I can't imagine what taking a human life feels like and hope to never know. I will admit that I may have shot both of them too, but most of my outrage is with the pride he took in killing them

I caught someone trying to break into my house a few months ago. I wasn't alarmed by any noises cos my dog wasn't freaking out like she normally does when someone (cable guy, meter reader) is in the yard. Anyway I heard some noises from the outside of the house. I looked out the back window and saw the gate was open and figured the neighbors dog was rooting around the house. I went out and confronted a guy wearing a bandana bandit style. I grabbed a gravel rake and proceeded to beat the **** out of him and he split. It was too hot to chase him w no shoes n in 115 degree heat. Luckily I didn't have my gun on me....
