Thieves strike the 4runner...

Well on the last night of my 10 day road trip through Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada, The 4runner was broken into in Yakima Washington.

THE VIP RS3000 DID NOT GO OFF!:rant: i was sleeping in my room maybe 50 feet away from the truck at night and didn't hear a single sound. this is ridiculous Toyota... To everyone: i had the tonneau cover pulled so that you couldn't see any of the stuff that was stolen.

Most of the stuff the thief stole is replaceable, $500 in brand new clothes, a brand new pair of custom NIKE AIR Force 1s, and an old bag, But the thing that really gets me is my Handmade solid walnut subwoofer enclosure, the sub itself is worth nothing, its a cheap JL, but the box is worth everything to me. i really dont know how they knew it was in there, or if they got lucky finding it in there because it was totally concealed from outside and absolutely no one had seen or heard it in that city because i arrived in yakima at around 9pm with the stereo off.

I dont know how they did it so the alarm didnt go, and i dont know how they knew it was in there.... really puzzling.....

Thats a bummer, sorry to hear that. I had a car broken into with a sliding cargo cover. I think they are an attractant, because if you have it pulled, you are hiding something. Nice enclosure btw

Thieves are *****es, and this is why I don't put brand stickers on my trucks. See a Marlin Crawler or any similar sticker and it's a decent bet there's something pawnable in that truck.

Damn that sucks. The alarm is supposed to have glass breaking detection. Maybe it has been disabled through valet mode.

Maybe they use spark plug to break the widow ?

I installed a viper alarm. So i hope that makes thiefs go away.

Glad the truck didn't get stollen !!!!! Install some kill switches and alarm

What a lovely welcome from, "The Palm Springs of Washington."

Yakima is a cesspool and is full of degenerates, thieves, and criminals. Sorry you had to experience it first hand.

That efn blows! That cabinet is gorgeous. They probably saw that you were from out of town.

I have a Turntable made out of Maple. Hard woods sound so much better than MDF.

I hear heroin use is rampant there, so glad I live in the country... Hell, even living in the ghetto in St. Louis most of my life, I only had 2 break-ins ever on my vehicles. Stuff is pure evil.

That sucks. They probably saw the cover pulled and knew there was a chance there was something worth smashing the window under it.

Hopefully your stuff gets recovered.

Sorry to hear that. When you arrived, did you go in he back for anything? They might have been watching the whole time. I had a similar experience in Albuquerque and I walked right by a"guy" at 1 am when I was unloading some stuff to go into my motel room and came out the next day and found the rear side window of my '83 Supra smashed.

Sorry, man. Crackima has a reputation for stuff like this.

Hopefully you can have another nice enclosure built.

For some reason my 4runner has been a magnet for crime in Seattle. In 10 years Ive had 8 issues.

In the U distrcit:
1. Tore off the plastic piece on the side of running board.. Just one of them.
2. Busted out my passenger window. Didn't steal anything

In Ballard:
3. Cut off my catalytic converter in broad day light and ruined an o2 sensor as well..
4. Busted out my rear passenger window. Didn't steal anything.

In Eastlake:
5. Busted out my driver window and stole my sub.
6. Busted out the same window you had busted. Stole my amps and sub.

In downtown:
7. Busted out drivers window and stole 2 ping pong paddles, CD's, and one windshield wiper blade.
8. Busted out rear drivers window. Didn't steal anything.

Not sure what can be done other than getting a very fancy car alarm with 2 way paging and a concealed weapons permit...

Best advice is to up your insurance coverage and don't leave anything in there that you cant live without =\

Oh man.... I sure hope you can get that sub box back. That thing looked sweet. Thieves suck. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! :sniper:

Sorry to hear about the break in. I'm guessing the alarm didn't go off because they went in through that rear window. The alarm would only go off if they open the door. Personally I use a truck club in addition to having an alarm. At least they didn't steal your truck.

Sucks man, sorry to hear that. That sub enclosure is beautiful! Hopefully something bad happens to the thieves. At least your truck is still there.

The alarm would only go off if they open the door.

Isn't there a glass-break sensor in the 3rd gen 4runners? I thought it was this thing with the holes:

I can set mine off by closing the loud heavy-duty "snap" latches on a Pelican-case if the alarm is armed and all the windows/doors are closed.

sorry to hear the window was busted.

2 nights ago my lexus was opened up (not locked) and they took my radar right off the windshield.

living in a town of about 15,000 thats the most conservative county in the whole US thats majority Mormons and this happens.

Sorry that happened especially when you are traveling.

I have to say I'm amazed and encouraged that a police officer was dusting the car. You would not get an actual unit to respond in most places. They usually take a report over the phone these days.
