Thieves strike the 4runner...

That's terrible! I'm definitely going to be testing my alarm system this week to make sure the microphone is calibrated correctly.
 
That's a crappy way to wrap up a vacation. I always tell my family to never leave anything in view when parking the car, even an empty grocery bag or jacket in the back seat may lead to a smashed window, but if everything was out of sight, not much else you can do.

We too wrapped up our vacation with two nights in Yakima 25/26-Aug, and left our two bikes on the hitch rack overnight without incident. It only takes one opportunistic a-hole to pull something like this and sadly they can be found most anywhere.
 
Ugh... that crap makes my blood boil. You said you had an aftermarket car alarm? Do you have shock sensors or just door sensors? Even so, no car alarm will protect against smash and grab theft. I hate having to have a car alarm, but after my 1994 Toyota Extended Cab truck had both locks and one handle destroyed, I figured that I hated replacing my stuff and fixing my car more. My neighborhood is kinda sketchy so I for sure have one now.

i think you hit it right on the head, when i got there to unload stuff, the south american cleaning ladies were outside having a cigarette, they must have seen the box, and called up their boyfriends to come smash my window....

The RS3000 has a glass breakage sensor by the handbrake, the sensitivity must have been too low, i am going to make sure it is adjusted tonight. :pout:
 
That sucks man.

Four years ago I brought 4 brand new tires from Firestone in Scottsdale, AZ. Exactly one week later on Halloween night someone tried to steal all four tires/rims. Luckily for me the car jack they were using broke, causing the truck to fall down on it. So they only made off with one tire. With the advice of this forum I went back to the shop and complained/investigate since I at the time lived in a secure condo complex. It all seemed too suspicious. Ended up getting a new tire 50% off and bought a junk yard 5star rim.

Best of luck to you. Cops told me that they will probably never find who did it which always seems like the case.

No. sadly i dont have an aftermarket one, i have the stock VIP RS3000 toyota one. the toyota one does have a sensor tho, just didnt go off. I am seriously thinking about a VIPER now...

Don't be too hard on yourself. That could have happened anywhere to be honest. Some places are worse than others, but no place is completely safe.

I don't have any faith in OEM alarms. But like I said earlier, even the best alarm won't protect from the type of smash and grab that happened to you. Just to give you an idea... I have seen firefighter videos that demonstrate how to beak the rear cargo windows without making a sound by simply tapping on the glass in a rhythm and going from corner to center. That rear doesn't make a lot of noise sometimes.

I had the same windows get blown out on I-5 by some rock strike or something. When you get yours replaced, go to a reputable place (not the cheapest) and pay attention to the job they do. Some places don't touch up the body surface. This leads to rust. And THAT particular window has a very tricky gasket that comes with and is very difficult to mount like the original. Just an FYI.

Sorry you have to deal with that crap man.

Thanks again for your support, the funny thing is, the truck was just restored 15 days ago and all the glass was out so the paint is all brand new underthere, you bet I will pay attention to the job they do.

Sorry to hear about it. I got my glass from deathcougar and i installed it myself so i wouldn't know, try giving the local junkyards a call for the glass, it might be much cheaper that getting one from an autoglass shop. good luck!
 
Years ago I had to replace that same glass. It's a rare $400 piece if you want new glass. I was a able to score a used one installed onto my truck for $120.
 
They dont call it CRACKIMA to be nice. It is the drug/gang/criminal element capital of Wa!!! You got hit because you tried to cover up what was in the back....they know if there was nothing of value that is left rolled up. Was that the Fairfield near the freeway from downtown? That place has vehicles hit all the time...like as in constantly....they come in out of those back lots to the north of it. If your in Yakima and you see anyone with a back pack....F'N THIEF ALERT!!!
