Part of the problem is that there are unscrupulousness dirt bags that will actually pay these punks money for the things. If the punks didn't have a way to sell them, they wouldn't be stealing them. It's no different than the guys paying cash (no paper trail, of course) for copper and brass. Now you've got people breaking into unfinished homes and robbing construction sights. It makes me sick. :mad:
 
Thanks Guys for all the comments, I'm going to look into the skid plate idea, I like that....

I dropped it by the muffler shop today, they're working on it right now. So, $107 for the rear o2 sensor, $225 for a cat plus tax....so roughly 335 or 345 total....you know what the kicker is? It's my wife's birthday on Sunday.....I told her last night that I bet she didn't know what I was getting her for her birthday.....yep, that's right a new c.....j/k.....the kids and I will be getting her something.....not sure what at this moment, but something.....perhaps a new skid plate for her husbands 4runner.....

i wish you could do the razor blade thing but you can get in very big trouble for that,and what would be more gut wrenching having your stuff stolen or having your stuff stolen then going to jail and being sued by the crook,personally i believe you get what you deserve, no i don;t think you should be able to shoot someone who's trying to break into your car, your house yes but car no, and i also think if you put some razors in your car there to keep a thief out that should be ok as well, as most likely they aren't going to die but be hurt pretty bad which is cool IMO, if you do something stupid and hurt yourself it's your own dam fualt, whatever in the f**k happened to personal responsibility and liability? it makes me sick, if you stick a gun in your mouth and accidentally blow your head off, it's your fualt for being an idiot not the gun companies fualt for not putting enough safety features and all of the rest....aarrgrggg i could go on all day about the state of modern society , i'll just leave it at you can't booby trap anything for any reason....

98RunnerSR5, did you mean to say you figured out who the thief was by the shop he was selling them at? That should be a pretty good lead for the cops to catch a repeat thief.

Or just pay the shop guy to tell you who the guys were, then burn their house down.:flamethrwoer2:

If that is too strong, break into their car, take a dump on the seat, piss into the air vents (so they smell it forever), and leave a little note saying "I hope you enjoy the stolen Cat money"
 
I was at the Utica Park Clinic yesterday, 12th and Utica, only there for 40 or 45 minutes or so tops....the muffler shop just called, said its ready....$228.30, cash price, plus the $107 for the rear o2 sensor, so, not too bad but it still puts a dent in the budget.....the guy said he's been doing these on the 4runners a lot lately, had the o2 part number handy....he said a couple other spots in tulsa were the lowes at 111th/memorial along with the supertarget at 101st/memorial....that's awfully brave....

my wife said she saw a guy at the supertarget trying to steal the wheels off of a 98 or 99 camry there a couple months ago, apparently she scared him off when she walked by with her shopping cart, he took off in toyota avalon with his trunk still up. Just as he was taking off, security came running out as they were seeing what was happening as well on video....

I'm thinking I can put up some kind of shield under the cat converter, to help deter this in the future.....

wow that is a big dent in your pocket, maybe weld a underside skid pan for stuff like that so in the future it wont get stolen.
 
Ok, got it back, much quieter now....the muffler guy said that the crooks don't steal the aftermarket ones, they can't get anything from them, apparently they're dipped in some liquid, which does the same thing as the originals only they can't scrape or recoup anything from them from junkyards...which, is good news....too bad you have to go through the hassle of getting it stolen first....

Had I known that, I probably would have bought an aftermarket one and had it put on so I wouldn't have had to deal with it getting stolen....just replace it with aftermarket....$200 or so for an aftermarket one or 340 for a cat and o2 sensor....something to think about....

btw, I just got an email from tpd letting me know they've assigned a case number to my larceny....

Mine was stolen two weeks ago today. My truck's still parked in the driveway, waiting for insurance and installation to finish up. Driving a 90 Supra is a huge change, and I am sick of it. I want my truck back!

I'm looking into BudBuilts to make it a little more difficult. I don't suggest welding or locks because a determined theif will do more damage cutting through everything than just unbolting it.

My aunt's 02 Taco was hit by the theives a few months back too.

F***ers.


Oh yeah. And this is California. $1800 to replace each time they're stolen. And the a***oles make maybe $100 on the damn thing. :/ And no option for aftermarket without welding.
 
Sorry about your Runner. People in hard times think they're entitled to other people's things. They'd make great politicians.

On almost the same note, watch your tires. Tire theft is on a rapid rise. The news gave stats and showed how easy it was for theves to steal tires. Even ones with locking lug nuts.
 
Just an update, the local news came out and interviewed me today about it being stolen, they're running it at 6pm tonight on channel six news (newson6.com) I'll publish the link when the story is online....I even told them what kind of car they were driving and a description of the people that stole it, I told her the guy had multi coloroed hair, she chuckled and said that should be a very good clue to the police....so, we'll see what happens. The reporter is checking the tag number to see if its stolen or if the car was stolen, she is supposed to email me back on Wednesday with that info....

cool man did they get any sweet shots of your runner? lol, i hope the thieves don't retaliate at all if/when they see you on the news, most re****s like this don't watch the news so you may be ok, lol
 
Someone needs to tell the news it's 4runner, not forerunner. I think there's only one other word that starts with "fore".
 
Another update, I talked to the police today, apparently the car was stolen, so they have other issues to deal with aside from stealing my cat.....

Few months back a saw a Toyota "foreigner" in the paper. Was laughing for soo long.


I was thinking though, wouldn't skids help deter thieves? Imagine they slide under the 4runner, see this huge steel plate staring back at them in the face, they will move right on to the next car. Their goal is to be done and gone in like 30 seconds max, this will definitely cause problems for them.

As far as the alarm, no, it wasn't on ( I know, my own fault, I've had it for 13 years, should have known better ), not sure it would have done anything to deter them....I've shaken the 4runner with the alarm on before and it doesn't go off, my kids have hit it with basketballs, nothing.....with a pipe cutter cutting the pipes, don't think that would have set it off at all.....I really didn't think it was the part of town I had to set the alarm on....its a nice doctors office, lots of foot traffic, I wasn't parked way out, parked fairly close....knowing what I know now, I'd park with the passenger side facing the most populated area.....

Yeah, I think the skid plates would deter them, wish I had a set on there.....or some cables just looped all around it, make them think they're going to have to wrestle with it, which would add time to stealing it......the two witnesses said they were done in less than 2 minutes.....that's a quick $120 for them....more than I make an hour.....$60 a minute....not too bad......

Oh wow you live in Tulsa may I ask where about you were when it happended. Lived there for 12 years and my chilhood friend is a Tulsa sheriff. Catalytic theft is becoming more common because of the precious metal. Toyotas are prime due to the higher ground clearance than most even from factory.
