LOL I drove my buddys blazer with the zr2 package or whatever and man what a rattle box that was at like 80k.I couldnt even talk to my passengers when going down a rough road,and in ny all the roads are rough so makes for a lousy experience.Im fixing my rattles now so it doesnt turn out like my friends blazer.He ended getting rid of just strickly because of the interior rattle drove him loopy :jump:

Shouldnt have to, Toyota knew their market when they made these trucks.

Any vehicle is going to rust in New England. I'm not saying that Toyota's rust protection is good because it isn't for being in a state that uses road salt. The real problem is the road salt. There are just as many rusted out Chevys Jeeps Subarus and Land Rovers etc as there are Toyotas

My '05 Honda CR-V rattles and squeaks more than my '97 4runner. It also doesn't feel as solid when I'm driving it either. There is nothing wrong with my Honda and that company is known for their good quality also, but there's an 8 year difference between my vehicles and the that says something for Toyota.

If this was a Jeep, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, or pretty much any other forum, this thread wouldn't be focused on sunroof woes and cup holders. It would be about head gaskets, grenading trannies, spun bearings, thrown rods, etc...

The only thing that pissing me off is the huge amount of money I want that I dont have to build my truck the way I want to.
Other than that, I cant be upset at my truck. Its done everything I have ever tried to do in it.

haha! the sunroof is kind of lame how it does that. I guess its for "safety" reasons and that does make sence though cause once upon a time i owned a civic and i had my sun roof open while it was raining and my buddy thought it would be cool to see what if feels like to stick his hands out going 70mph. yeah... i closed the sunroof on his hands and they got stuck :lmao: I guess theres too many people like me on the road LOL

I have no complaints except my lack of funds to make it the way i want to make it.

Right on. I live about 1 1/2 hours north of Boulder, in Cheyenne. Bought mine in Ft. Collins, with zero rust. I mean, maybe a tiny tiny bit. I knew if I looked for one here in WI when I got back for school, it would be rusty. I still dont get why they dont use magnesium here in the midwest like they do back there.

haha i had a 2007 honda accord with 50k on it. loaded ex-l with nav and heated seats and EVERYTHING rattled. i spent hours trying to find the glovebox metallic rattle the trunk plastic rattle etc etc i finally lost my mind having spent 16k cash on it and sold it for 13 just because i could no longer stand it. bought my 4runner for 5grand (5runner haha) and couldnt be happier.

This probably has to do with being up to my headlights in a muddy river, but I hate that both my front ADD actuator and my rear locker motor stopped working during the first huge snow storm we got.

Timing chains are nice, but most don't last as long as one's vehicle either. And when a chain breaks (which happens a lot) the pistons slap the valves and smash them doing very costly damage. This is also true for most timing belt equipped engines. But they were thinking when they desinged the non-interference system that the 3.4 has. Yes, it may cost ~$600 every 90K/7 years or so to change the timing belt, but if it breaks the engine doesn't get damaged, it just won't run until the belt is replaced. This being the case, you don't have to change the timing belt. The worst that would happen is it leaves you stranded on the side of the road unexpectedly, but the engine will still be fine. I can't say this is a disadvantage to our trucks, I consider it a big advantage!

There is a thread about this exact thing in another section of the forums. A guy with a 4th gen lost his timing chain and trashed his engine with less than 200k on it. So now he needs a new one. At least with the 3rd gen you won't be buying a new engine.

I love everything about my 4runner except the power it has. My rig was slow with 265s, I cant imagine how some of you guys run 33s and 35s. My tacoma with stock gears and 34s seem like it had a lot of more power then my 4runner stock. Maybe motor is just worn out but I must admit it does get pretty good mileage

I hate the fact that Toyota didn't make a TRD Edition 3rd Gen 4Runner! Taller progressive coils, Special optionned wheels, badging, Super Charged, Scoop, Leather interior, Locked, with a factory rear tire carrier!

Because they didn't do so, I'm trying to build mine up kinda like that. I've got my Tundra Coils and LC in the rear, badging, After market wheels, made my own tire carrier (not the best, but nice price tag!)

If only I had a few more extra bucks! I'd get the SC, scooped hood, leather, and maybe even the locker....not that I'd use it that much.....

I love my 4Runner and sure there are squeaks and rattles every now and then but my sub usually covers those up. :bigok:

My only gripe, changing the 3rd brake light with the factory spoiler on! Why do I need to pull the damn wing off to get at the damn bulb? hahaha :rant:

you shouldnt have to remove the deflector, i dont anyways. if you pull the light out and before it goes thru the opening if you tilt it and angle it it will go right thru (barely). hard to explain and its not intuitive, but know there is a way

I've got a lot of squeaks and rattles that I could do without but apart from that, I love this truck. I would like to get a newer one in the future except they stopped making manuals. :moping:

My gripes are:

1. Front windows rattle slightly when they are cracked down (old age most likely)

2. Tailgate supports have a life span of 6 months

3. I wish the rear seats had heating AND A/C for the rear passengers. They don't mind the heat function though)

4. The 3rd gen is just slightly underpowered. Another 30 HP & 20 lb/ft of torque from the factory would be amazing.
