Im at my witts end with some of the problems im having with my 4runner and I wanted to tell you all.Anything bothering you with youre current 4runner 3rd gen list it.Mine is a 5th gear whine and a rattle comming from under the dashboard,rust comming in in like 10 different little areas andmy clutch sqeeks.Im at 112k now and theres no waaaay im driving this thing for the next 5 years (i buy something different every 5 years) with all these issues.and and the e-brake doesnt work and adjusting it does little to nothing :redbrick:

Ive got a little rattle coming from somewhere in the dash but i dont wanna pull the dash apart to find it so i fix it by turning up the radio. Problem solved!

The only thing that pissing me off is the huge amount of money I want that I dont have to build my truck the way I want to.
Other than that, I cant be upset at my truck. Its done everything I have ever tried to do in it.

As much as I love the 4runner, I can get in on this...

I hate the rust susceptibility, especially on the rear axle.

I hate the slow shifting into drive and reverse. It is way slower than my previous cars have been, and if I forget and get on the gas too soon, it jolts the drivetrain.

Hit the nail on the head with that one. Not a big fan of my cup holders. but.. they do work.

Yeah the cup holders suck but if I wanted a lot of cup holders I would have got a minivan. Don't drink and Drive.
Most of my gripes with the 4Runner are due to age and can be fixed with turning the radio up.

How many gallons are you using when you get 190 to a "tank"? My fuel light comes on when I still have 4.5 gallons (or roughly 70 more miles). Armor isn't a problem if you gear down.

3rd gen pet peeves...

1. Too-small fuel tank + piss poor MPG = too short range!

2. A vehicle with this poor of MPG should have more power. Low power + low
MPG is bad.

3. Noisy at highway speeds. Hard to hold a conversation in and you better like your music loud because otherwise you won't hear it.

4. Should be some kind of ledge or panel on the rear deck to keep things from falling on the ground when you open the lift gate.

5. Auto-up on both front windows gets annoying when I'm just trying to open it a crack to get some air.

Of all the peeves, I'd say the small gas tank is the worst. I could live with the poor MPG if it had decent range. My 1990 Montero had an underpowered 150hp V-6, but it also had a 24.5 gallon tank, so even at 17mpg I could go 400 miles between fillups.

I'm not going to mention the rattles, shakes, or sloppy steering because, c'mon, it's a 12 year old truck with 135k on it - what do you expect?

Despite the above, I still have to say I love my 3rd gen. I have to admit, though, that as I get older, a 4th gen starts looking better and better. :

I get to about 270 before my low fuel light pops on :shrug: 18.2 mpg this last tank!

I feel I could go faster safer in my last cherokee or K1500 on a snowy highway - this feels a bit top heavy even with nice new firestones - I attribute that to it's off roading ability which prizes ground clearance over COG ..?
