That's why they are called "Exploders", did you know the tranny in the 1st gen Explorer is the same tranny they used in the Pinto? Yes, the Pinto!!!
A4LD is a POS tranny!
Mine exploded just after the warranty expired around 40K ish miles if I remember right.
I haven't had a Ford since.
THATS how you lose customers for life.

I love my 4runner, but alas, the ghost haunted seat has been getting a little old. It still lowers itself randomly when i shut off the car, and the horn honks twice. No idea why, but the controls dont work until i sit down in the seat, turn on the 4Runner, and use the controls... Weird...

My '01 has been awesome since I bought it in '08. I had a '98 Blazer before that and there is no comparison. I wish the driver's seat would go back as far as my Blazer's did, but I'm used to it now. (Except Winter days like today when I have huge boots on).
I just recently replaced the a/f sensor, CAT, plugs and wires, all OEM. Thankfully I saved a little dough by doing it myself and getting Toyota employee prices, but still it hurts to spend that much right after Christmas!
The biggest gripe I have is definitely the VSC. Just this morning I was pulling out of the coffee shop onto a main road and of course she shuts right down after I try to make a quick getaway before the Mac truck goes by. We just had a snow storm so the roads are covered in ice and slush. Evertime the VSC shuts the acceleration down I feel like yelling at the truck: "Yes I know the roads are slippery thank you! I also know how to get going from a stop with only a minimal amount of fishtailing so will you please give me power you f*cking computer!!!!" That's really the only time I miss the Blazer.

No body has had problems w/the e-brake assy's freezing up???
Cup holders 98 or 99 in center consule ? I like the 98 on dash except for not being able to adjust the heat with a coffe in it.
The 99 i hate that i have to take my eyes off the road to look down or feel around to get my coffee.
Pretty trivial. Great trucks! Cant complain for what i have into them. The suspension is much smoother in the 99. And the 98 has just about new everything you can throw at suspension to get back to factory other than a billstein upgrade.

yeah, mine are frozen right now. had to use a hammer to release them. Gonna take them off and clean them once we thaw out a bit.
Here a legit complaint albeit a small one. The hood latch is sticky. There is a design flaw of some sort as I have seen this one on lots of 4runners. I had to clean and grease the thing real well, and have to slam the hood down to get it to lock down. Even then it isn't 100%. Sometime is just needs the old screwdriver to latch.

Forgot the lame windshield washers that only work below 20mph. Rear window washer is next to useless. Rear wiper is only good for snow, not rain (though to be fair, I've never replaced the rear blade so that could be the problem...)

Oh man, Amen. My wipers suck, and I have tried a bunch of different ones. The rear works alot better than the fronts, but I just replaced the thing. And it doesn't work THAT well. I think I am going to try a much shorter one in front to see if that will work better

I bought some low profile "Reflex" wiper blades....they work pretty good..
