If you put your key in the trunk key hole and turn it to unlock then turn it again and hold down the key, the rear window opens. I can't believe I didn't realize this sooner.

Actually, I don't think you need to turn it and turn it again...I think if just turn and hold, one way opens the tailgate window, and the other way closes it.

Well at least you can turn ATRAC off but I know what you mean and I do agree.
Regardless of your feeling towards my Apple comment the problem being customizable user interfaces, THAT is what people like. You know having preset seat positions, custom climate control for either side front/back of the cabin, user defined radio stations, ect, ect. [sarcasm=ON]Letting the user decide how they want it to work how stupid is that.[sarcasm=OFF] The system is certainly smart enough, Toyota has it available to some extent. Just one step further.

To help keep snow/ice from building on it. Besides it often defogs just fine without running the air conditioner, uses less gas too, and doesn't directly rob power from your drive train. Of course maybe if you live in a high humidity area, which I suppose maybe 1/2 of the north American continent qualifies for you'll need it, on the other hand that other half is pretty dry :shrug:

Haha yeah I hear you, just goes to show, it's hard to please everyone. Sometimes too many options is a bad thing, imagine how much thicker the already thick user manual will be?! No one's going to read it if it's the size of a phone book :jk:

I actually have no opinion about most of these little nuances we find, I kind of just treat it as well, it is what it is.

Correct. A/C on + Recirc.

There is an emergency release handle inside the rear hatch.

Pop the rectangular plastic panel off, reach inside and cut the plastic, and then remove the white access panel (not very easy) to finally(!) see the little release handle which will manually pop the hatch. Hopefully the truck isn't on fire or something if you need to get out the back NOW...lol.

Something that I'm sure is in the manual but might give you guys a laugh. On the limited with the push button start you can drive off without the "key", how do I know, well we learned it the hard way one day when I drove to work with my wife and kids. She dropped me off and took the kids to day care, about 5 miles away, went in and came out to start the car only to realize the key was with me at my desk at work. Oops.

It beeps at you but if it's running you can still drive off. Once you turn it off you need the fob to start it back up. Fortunately a friend has a kid at the same daycare and happened to pull up at the right time. Needless to say I had a very angry and confused voicemail from my wife asking why the toyota engineers hadn't figured that one out. Haha

Problem is, if you are sleeping back there you can't open the hatch (easily) to get out. If you leave the child locks "on" for the rear doors, then you have to climb into the front to get out. Been there done that.

I'm making it an escape hatch, lol.

I actually read the manual and didn't know this (or had forgotten the feature). Of course, it took me about three days to get through the entire manual. However, if you remove the audio section out of the manual, it will only take a half day!

Yup. Already thought of that one. It'll be mounted in a place, and in a way, that's hard to accidentally trip. To damn cold outside to mess with it today!

ok I just spent the last few days going thru the manual and just re-read it again for the last 1.5 hrs.

I am trying to find out if there is a way to have the center stack lights stay on when the light control stalk is set off.

at night in the dark, all the button lights go dark when your in park and no parking/headlights are on. its dam annoying when waiting for the warden to run inside store/etc and I cant find the dam buttons to push in the dark since they are not lit. I have to turn the stalk to parking light setting to see anything.

or did I miss it in the manual somewhere due to frustration.

I've noticed this, too... never in the situation you had, though.

When you get into the car without the fob and it's already running, there should be an icon of a key with a strike through it on the left (?) side of the dash. In the pic below, it's the small yellow icon in the corner.

Toyota probably did that intentionally, I mean...imagine if ever time it does not detect your key the vehicle automatically shuts off??? First it was the unintentional acceleration fiasco, next it will be unintentional shutting offing law suits, lol.

On my old car, I remember seeing the indicator come on from time to time while I am driving to tell me that the smart key is not detected (even though it is in the same exact place it was when I started the car); I think it's probably due to radio interference while you are driving around or something to that extent. Now what if it shut off each time instead of just blinking a dummy light at you

Talk about me over thinking this one, I was picturing you some how mounting a strap from the actual emergency release lever under the panel and running out through the panel where it's more accessible for you to pull on. But I guess a switch will do (unless you run down the battery :bolt

Actually- it would be possible to extend that emergency release lever so you could reach it easier, and I messed around with that for a bit. A strap wouldn't work though.
In the end I figured a switch is gonna be a better solution because the lever can still be accessed if needed. With some practice it's not that hard to get to.
