Things you did not know about your 4runner

Pen Holder

I just noticed today that there is a pen holder next to the tissue holder on the center console lid.

Now I need to remember to order some tissues.

If you have the smart key, you can simply grab the driver's side door handle to unlock just that door. If you want to unlock all the doors, simply:

1. Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch OFF.
2. When the indicator on the key surface is turned off, press and hold the unlock button and then hold the lock button on the "key" for approximately 5 seconds.

You'll hear the exterior beep twice and the interior ping once. Go outside, lock your door and then test it out. WALA! All doors will unlock. Not that it isn't already but it's so much more convenient.
Thank you for sharing this! I've been annoyed that the passenger side opened all the doors but the driver's side couldn't unlock all of them. All is well now.

Went to the dealer for my first 5k service and told them the low washer fluid indicator wasn't working. They verified that the Trail doesn't have a low fluid indicator. So I asked if I could take one off a Premium edition and they said it didn't have one either ... what? A $40K vehicle with no warning light that the fluid is low.....well there is one indicator, when the back washer stops squirting fluid then you know you are about out ... geez

Also did not know this - found out the hard way in really tough conditions on I-70, had to peer through a tiny little hole in the windshield for 5 miles to get to a gas station to refill in the middle of a snowstorm a few weeks ago. Lesson learned... now I have some fluid stored in the back in case it happens again when I'm in need. Not a big deal but I was pretty annoyed at the time lol.

cup holders suck

figured out that if I put some felt dots inside my cup holders they don't stick to my coffee mug and have to be pried off every time I take a drink. Also, found a great hack to keeping the rubber inserts in their holes and not sticking to your drink. Put heavy duty velcro between the insert and the hole. Problem fixed. Also, cut some of that rubber stuff that keeps utensils from sliding around in a drawer and stuck it in the little tray in front of the gear shifter so my change doesn't slide around and rattle when I'm driving.

I JUST learned yesterday after 6 months of owning 2016TEP that you can pause live radio.

Life changing? Not at all i'll probably never use it. But new to me.

I use this all the time. It is great being able to make a phone call and come back to the radio with it having automatically paused and recorded up to 30 minutes of stuff allowing me to fast forward through commercials. So so so so so helpful for avoiding the really bad sports radio commercials here in Houston.

Passenger side headlight went out randomly Friday night. After trying 3 different ballasts, trying a different bulb on each ballast and nothing worked. Put the stock halogen bulb in and that didn't work either.

Driver side worked with zero issue checked all the wires on the headlight thinking the worst that maybe a wire fried or something and found nothing that stood out. Spent 2 days stumped why the driver side worked but the passenger side was dead?

Come to find out there's separate fuses for the left and right headlight in the fuse box in the engine bay.

Currently fixed and have a different brand hid kit on the way to replace this garbage opt7 set, had the same issue on my fog lights that fuse is under the dash.
Always run relays with aftermarket HIDs. Blown fuses may become the least of your problems

Great thread. Didn't realize there are so many wiseass T4R owners on here. :D

My contribution:

1) For those of you who have the Limited models, the TRD skid plate does fit even with XREAS.

2) There are parking sensors only on the pass + driver corners of your front bumper, and NOT the front section (i.e. it won't alert you how far you are away from a wall or something in your garage that is straight ahead of you)

3) There are a lot of voice settings that are available ("exit navigation" is my favorite one) as long as you have your voice programmed in the General settings.

4) For those of you who use Nationwide and enroll in their SmartRide program to get up to 40% on savings in your premium, the Eco mode really helps you stay on track : )

Must be the tires or your elevation.

Eco light turns off every time I hit the gas above 6000 feet.

Thanks!! I just bought my wife a new coffee thermos to combat this, but I can't help her with her water bottles... where do you put the felt tabs? I like the Velcro solution! Thanks!

I just lined the inside of the rubber insert with them all the way around bottom to top. It helps the sticking issue a lot even without the velcro.

Nalgene bottles fit nicely in the holes if you take the rubber insert out. Otherwise, any bottle of water should be fine with the insert installed.

Key Fob Battery Warning

I'm not sure if this was posted already, but I received a warning the other day from my instrument cluster that my key fob battery was low. This warning came on once I turned the engine off. Similar to the 'sunroof is open' warning.

I like it.

Bear Come Hither Mode

I was recently reading my owners manual and was really pissed to find out that I don't have the Party Mode switch. Bummer.

I turn the page and BOOM! How stupid have I been?? My truck apparently came with Bear Come Hither Mode!!! :guitar3:

OMG, why didn't I read the damn owners manual in the first place!?!

My wife drives our 5th gen. She just realized that it has heated wipers after almost 5 years. LOL.

Thanks for that link! These will fit the 5th gen? I'm sinus challenged so I keep a kleenex box handy and I was trying to figure out how to do this in my new 4Runner.

Yep... Mine is a 2014 TEP. They fit in the little box inside the middle compartment. My only issue is they are a little “dusty” when using... a fine kleenex “dust” if you will. But otherwise, I still like have it there so it’s out of the way. Plus, I use BOTH of the Silex organizers in the middle console too. Those are worth every penny.

Wow, thanks for that info about the Salex Organizers. I put both the dividers and the trey in my cart on Amazon. I knew I needed that, just didn't know they existed. Thanks again!
