I finally figured out what the small slot in front of the shifter is for on Canadian 4Runner Trail Edition models...

from a dead stop heading down a steep hill my transmission wants to stay in 3rd gear... switching out of D to 5s makes the trans shift into 5th! MGPs FTW!

That's intentional. Engine braking is beneficial in avoiding cooking the brakes, especially when you're loaded up

More of an FYI for folks who don't already know, rather than a 'discovery;' there are floor vents under the front seats, so be mindful of blocking them with items you want to stow if you want to maintain full heating/ cooling to the back seating area.

if on a steep hill in 'Drive' and you take your foot off the brake and start to roll backwards the traction control will kick in.

If you remove the second row headrests, you can see so much better out the back window. If you have a third row, you can store the headrests underneath until you need them.

My kids aren't tall enough to need them yet.

The second row headrest fold down. I keep mine down as much as possible.

I noticed on the Navigation that there are two blue progress bars while getting turn by turn navigation.
One on the right shows how far until your next turn.
The second on on the bottom right shows how where you are along the entire route.

I find the bottom right one helpful for a quick glance of how far out I am.

I just lined the inside of the rubber insert with them all the way around bottom to top. It helps the sticking issue a lot even without the velcro.

Nalgene bottles fit nicely in the holes if you take the rubber insert out. Otherwise, any bottle of water should be fine with the insert installed.

Good tip. Now I don't have to retrieve the rubber insert every time my sweetie takes her water bottle with her.

I just noticed today that there is a pen holder next to the tissue holder on the center console lid.

Now I need to remember to order some tissues.

Tire pressure gage fits it too.

A 'standard' coffee mug fits in the cup holder aft of the shift handle, with the handle pointing forward and the rubber liner removed.

When you pull back the turn signal stalk to the "flash to pass" position, the high AND low beam lights flash.

Haven't seen another vehicle do that, usually just the highbeams flash.:crazy:

Have you tried driving with one there though? I can't imagine coffee would stay in the mug very long lol

Has anyone ever noticed that in cruise control, if the truck needs to slow down or is going down hill it will downshift and engine brake/high-Rev? I assume this is normal and more efficient?

I noticed that this weekend. Although I wasn't using cruise, I was headed down a hill & it down shifted. Was going to ask about it also. Even after getting to bottom of hill on level grade, it never seemed to upshift.
