She works, but very reluctantly. After about 5 to 10 mins of being out of the garage the gear oils start to coagulate and the power steering stiffens up. Even at highway speeds the tranny fluid only made it up to about 95°F. :smow:

I think it actually got down to the -50°F range here last night. Most thermometers stop in the -30/-40 range, so it's hard to tell for sure.

Just found out if you drive down the street slowly with all your doors open hot chicks will jump in. It drives my wife crazy.

Haven't tried it, but I assume if you leave your rear end open you'll end up having a gay ol' time.

Holy moly. That's about 100 degrees colder than what I consider to be "really cold".

North Pole Alaska? Does Santa have some hot helpers to warm you up? Now that I mapped it, we blew through North Pole on the Alcan Hwy headed to Fairbanks. When we stopped in Tok, AK, one of the stores had an analog thermometer that went down to -60 F. I looked at store owner’s short haired dog and asked how he handles the winters? Store owner said he handles winters great down in Mexico. We get the F outta here.


I’ve driven the Dalton Hwy out past Galbraith Lake and onto the North Slope, but it was August and very nice. We camped at Galbraith and watched the sun go around the pole while drinking all night.

Yeah, I have a block heater, oil pan heater, tranny pan heater, and a trickle charger all wired into one slick plug I put on the front side valance piece (see pic). These heating devices are desperately needed when your truck's gotta sit outside all day while you're at work. I feel so bad for her! haha. Oh, you also have to mix anti-freeze 70/30, so it doesn't freeze. Thank God for remote start and heated seats.

And yeah, the summers up here are amazing. As you've seen, the sun literally never goes down. I've only made it half as far as you did. We stopped at the Arctic Circle sign for a selfie and turned back towards Fairbanks. Must have been an awesome trip for you. Alaska is an amazing place! :cheers:

I once had a Land Rover Defender 110 diesel. Now, winters in Boston are certainly not that cold but what the hell...I installed a diesel pre-heater (Eberspacher brand, German) for the coolant. It was remote controlled, plumbed to the diesel line (of course), circulated the coolant while heating it and heated up the block nicely. Starting up after that was a breeze.

There are gas versions also, of course.

When your wife decides to climb into the back seat for a nap, the seat belt alarm goes off even when she's no longer in the seat.

I bought one of these seat belt buckles on Amazon that I attached to my headrest rod and I tuck in the back pocket of seat. When my dog gets in the front seat and the seatbelt light starts chiming, I reach over and grab this buckle and plug it in and it thinks seatbelt is buckled.It was $9.99 for two

Would be perfect fix for your situation too.

I purchased a big ticket item recently and had to haul it back in the back of the 4R with the tailgate partially open. The door-open buzzer was buzzing all the way home.

I brought a 75" home in November in the back of my 4R. Back seats folded down, and back door closed.

If you have the smart key, you can simply grab the driver's side door handle to unlock just that door. If you want to unlock all the doors, simply:

1. Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch OFF.
2. When the indicator on the key surface is turned off, press and hold the unlock button and then hold the lock button on the "key" for approximately 5 seconds.

You'll hear the exterior beep twice and the interior ping once. Go outside, lock your door and then test it out. WALA! All doors will unlock. Not that it isn't already but it's so much more convenient.

I'm fairly certain this post just saved my marriage. Thank you!

We all know the wing mirrors fold in, but did you know they fold the "wrong" way by several degrees? So if you're backing up while you're in some brush and your mirror gets snagged it'll pop backwards and you can notice and fix it before you actually damage it.

Just found out. as your battery dies the doors will lock. You can open the door with the key but if you exit the vehicle the doors will auto lock behind you.

To add to this if anyone has not figured this out yet. Once you put it back in park after shutting the engine off, you do not need to press the engine start button to turn the 4Runner off to start the vehicle. When in this mode, the light is amber on the engine start button. All you have to do is press the brake, move the shifter to the right, but not out of park, like you are about to go into reverse, but dont pull down on the shifter, the amber light turns green and then press the button at the same time while holding in this position to restart the vehicle without having to turn everything off again. Your welcome!!

This only applies to Limited models which have a push button start. I finally figured out how to turn off the engine, but keep the electronics in accessory mode. When you are ready to turn off the engine, put the transmission in Neutral instead of Park and push the Start/Stop button. Radio will stay on and doors will stay locked.

It's probably in the manual, but I have never seen it.

Hmm, I just messed with this on the way home, LOL while it was 13 degrees outside! SO it seems if the Temp knob is anywhere on the blue side the AC automagically comes on. Which I stand by my original comment, not sure I like that.

Coming from older LOL less advanced Toyotas I find this marked behaviour perplexing I didn't like the fact the AC ran in my Gen3 when the defroster was on. I realize it was to dehumidify the cabin air but fact of the matter is you don't always want it dehumidifying the air when you are blasting heat at the windshield.

I bet you had defrost on. A/C activates with defrost to defog the glass faster.
