Things you did not know about your 4runner

Not sure if this has been discussed, but wow, I just realized that our Limited's smart key door handles have a lock/unlock sensor on both the top AND the bottom of the handle.

Not sure why, but the head-unit displays different album cover artwork than my I-pod. I have always wondered where the artwork on the 4Runner comes from.

A lot of the album art is the exact same as what you get in a 2016 Chevy Equinox. All of the generic album art you get when listening to esoteric music is the same, at least what I've seen of it so far.

Things you didn’t know.....

So, here’s something that applies to all Toyota’s I guess... but especially when you’re driving a 4Runner because the vehicles are in the same category.
When you’re on the road, or off road for that matter.., and the person in the Jeep or Land Rover looks over at you in discuss like you’re driving an inferior vehicle,
you can have a 100% assumption that your IQ level is higher than theirs...

Learned three things this week when I had to change a tire on mine for the first time.

1. The jack has to be extended to pretty much full before you can get the tire off (don't be worried.. that thing will continue to rise even when you think it's topped out (giggity)). The travel of the suspension is both impressive and annoying at the same time.

2. That small hole in your rear bumper is where the factory tool thingie you have to assemble inserts to catch the crank point which lowers the spare.

3. It would SUCK to have to use the factory jack in an off-road situation.

Been there. Fortunately a friend had a block in his truck. I blew the tire bead off the rim on a trail in East Texas. It was sloppy but we got the jack up, tire off, cleaned out the mud to reseat the bead and had the rig back on the trail in less than an hour. All done with the factory jack and a $10 air pump after the compressor failed.

With the Smartkey system if you walk by your driver side door when it’s dark outside(this might work on ps also but I haven’t tried it) the puddle and interior lights come on.

Learned this the hardway this morning.

If you delete the Apple Music App on your Iphone, you wont be able to play music using a different music app VIA the USB mode. ( u can still play music via Bluetooth, just not USB using an IPHONE)

Guessing that it stops reconizing the device as an iphone/ipod and looses its bearings.

The quick fix was to re-install the Apple music app and everything worked fine again.

a couple months into my 4runner and i've discovered an interesting little quirk..

if you slam on the gas pedal, a loud noise emanates from the engine bay but it accelerates at the same pace as when driving normally

This one might be common knowledge, but if you have a push to start you can press the button while the car is in gear (not moving obviously) and it will turn the engine off but keep the music on. You can then shift to park, etc. without the music cutting off.

When your wife decides to climb into the back seat for a nap, the seat belt alarm goes off even when she's no longer in the seat.



I bought one of these seat belt buckles on Amazon that I attached to my headrest rod and I tuck in the back pocket of seat. When my dog gets in the front seat and the seatbelt light starts chiming, I reach over and grab this buckle and plug it in and it thinks seatbelt is buckled.It was $9.99 for two



Would be perfect fix for your situation too.

Hey just wanted to drop in and say THANKS to everyone for this thread. Lots of great info here!I was out for a few days- my house got struck by lightning and blew up the ethernet port on my mobo so I ordered a wifi card I just installed.


Back on topic- I'm disappointed (I think) that mine doesn't have the Party Mode, but then again I have the blank there. Hmmm what should I wire in there???

Gracenote is to blame. Utter garbage. It would change my album artwork when my iPod would play.
