Most of the vehicles I've owned in my life have been SUVs, and every SUV I've owned had manual transmission. I'm "old school" (and well, just plain old). I've always felt that automatics were for wusses, and certainly had no place in an off-road vehicle. When I bought the 4Runner in 2016 I was seriously bummed about the automatic tranny, but there were no other viable options that fit my needs.
But I've been pleasantly surprised at how well it's worked, and how much I've come to enjoy it.

This is....exactly what I was looking for. I've been stumped trying to find the right thing to store in that spot- right now I just have a C-collar.

I haven't noticed any rattling above the normal cacophony of noise coming from back there. All the pieces pop down into the plastic tray of the case, so it all gets held pretty snug. The kit itself comes with some drywall screws and picture hangers in a little plastic case you can see in the lower right part of the photo (kit isn't auto-specific), so I replaced those with fuses and electrical connectors.
Sure, it's harbor freight, but it's not like I plan on doing overhauls or anything. I just wanted some tools to get me home to my higher quality harbor freight set. I'm no mechanic. It's really the case that works well in that location, so you could just replace what you don't trust with upgrades. In my personal experience, it's the ratcheting socket driver that fails on these, so I usually throw in a non-ratcheting flexible head driver as a backup anyway.

Radio Station Scan Button
I use the radio station scan feature all the time. There was no physical scan button that I could see and it made me nuts. My only option was to touch "Options > Scan" on the touch screen. If it is cold outside I sometimes need to hit (pound) Option a few times for touch screen to respond and by then, I am lose to driving off the road or hitting somebody.
I found a manual physical radio station scan button tonight. Whoo hoo!

Sorry, red circle moved on its own and image shows the wrong button. I went to re-create today and button only appears to work if I am already in SCAN mode on the touch screen.

My 2018 SR5 does the same. Even clicks/knocks when I brake or accelerate abruptly. I took the entire assembly apart day 2 and found that it really cannot be fixed. The base mounts to the floor solidly, but the runners are a sort of scissor/spring system that is simply riveted together with no way to tighten/adjust. the seat back also attaches in some strange way that is unadjustable. However I did find that some system of slight adjustments on the auto seat switches, did seem to tighten it up a little. Still happens, have yet to find a cure.

I just bought a used 2018 SR5 from Hertz in Des Plaines, IL and found something amazing!! If you open the little cover in the left rear that conceals the jack/toolroll after about a month of ownership, you will find totally secret SLIDE HAMMER MARKINGS AND MASKING TAPE RESIDUE/ BONDO DUST FROM A PREVIOUS CRASH THAT WAS NEVER DISCLOSED AND DENIED BY HERTZ AT DEALERSHIP AND CORPORATE!! :redbrick:
It isn't in the carfax, so either they fixed it and didn't disclose (they would have internal paperwork, that they deny any access to, including their "120 point inspection" ) or a rental customer did it and had it fixed before paying Hertz a premium. I will likely never know, and only people who've worked in body shops will ever notice.
Really though, I thought I saw some "orange peel" in the quarter panel paint while on the lot/ but figured I am just a paranoid maniac who knows bodywork and has a crippling eye for detail. Turns out I am. Rather than paying a lawyer and spending a year in court, Im making lemonade by just prioritizing a retro-inspired toyota paint job, as I know some body guys.
HOWEVER, the truck is perfect everywhere else and has been to toyota for its checkups -the mechanic said it is remarkably clean and rust free underneath and was proud of me for fluid-filming it- So that's cool.
I also got it for about 4,300 less than every other comparable 4runner in the Chicagoland area. Someone tell me its gonna be OK :ranger:

I learned yesterday that pressing both of the up and down buttons on the rear hatch at the same time locks the vehicle. I know it's probably in the owners manual somewhere but I like to "discover" stuff.
