There's substantial hidden damage there. I'd almost bet it would be totalled. As far as insurance companies not paying true value, I completely disagree. In most cases, they pay more than you ever would have been able to sell it for. You get what you pay for in terms of insurance companies (look at your state insurance commissioner website for complaints filed against auto insurance carriers). You'll see what I mean.
If you own it outright or have a loan, retaining salvage is an option. Insurance companies send the salvage to auction. 4runners bring big bucks in terms of salvage value. If possible, try to retain salvage on the vehicle if you have the patience/time selling parts here and there.
Then again, salvage is likely to be at least 5k on that vehicle.
The laws vary state to state in terms of what is deemed to be a total loss. I've seen estimates from 70 to 85 percent of the actual cash value.
Again, for a repair facility to write a thorough/complete estimate on that vehicle a whole lot of teardown will have to be authorized.
There's also diminished value if it's determined to be repairable (that would be a claim against the other insurance carrier). Again, these laws vary state by state.
Feel free to send a PM with any questions. You should be able to handle this claim without representation from a lawyer. Lawyers want the injury claim. There's no money in representing property damage.
