Think she is totaled?

No word back yet but they say I may know the status tomorrow whether they total or not. In the mean I went to my local dealership to take a peak at the 11 4Runners- No offense 5th Gen owners- Seemed a little boxy, short front window and a little like being in a space ship where they placed all the controls, buttons etc.

So I've decided if things go south im gonna stick with the 4th Gens and grab another UrbanRunner or a Limited 08 or 09 ONLY. Obviously, if I can find a TE 09 I will snag that too. Anyone want to sell me their 08 -09 limited Runner?

I am very curious to find out what happens as I have the exact same car as you (black 08 UR). Please do let us know.

I'd be tempted to think about it if anyone offered me KBB excellent value :thumb3: Only problem is if I sell it, there is not another suv in the market I'd be interested in or offers more value than the 4R
 
Sorry for the mess you are in! I agree that they will want to total it. I love the 4th gens and do not want a 5th gen. I would take the total money and buy a late model, clean 4th gen. Just my opinion.

No final decision yet. I did talk to the appraiser today and he hasn't had a chance to put it on the lift yet to really look at the guts. Although, he did say in just cosmetic damage alone he is up to 9k. This is without axle, suspension bent floor etc... I guess I will find out soon.

He did also mention I have a very high salvage value at around 3500-5000.

At this point I don't know what to think!

If they fix it.. Do I keep it?

If they total it- What do I get?

All these things are running through my head and I can't hardly sleep.
 
It is not life or death for you just your beautiful 4Runner. Just like women, there are more out there and you will find another. If it is totaled make sure you do your homework first before they cut the check. Find 5 similar 4Runners with similar options and mileage, make sure is it full replacement value!

Also I hope you are using drunk Benz guy's insurance and placing the claim against that policy. Your ins company should also be a resource to you because you are their customer.
 
OP- My advice would be to assume it's going to be written off and start your planning and research for a replacement. This will be useful in understanding if their offer is fair. In addition, once they cut you a cheque for your vehicle you will be on the hook for the rental until you find a replacement so it's in your interests to make a start just in case.

do you still owe on it ? Do you have GAP insurance ? I hope for a total if I was in your shoes and move on to another 4R
as I have a 2008 4wd Urban runner and the pic of the 4R look bad to me
 
I finally got word back-

They are going to fix it.. Yeah, I'm pretty bummed 12k worth of damage they say.

Only good part of this is a may trash the XREAS and get the adjustable Bilsteins.
 
I'm thinking of trashing the XREAS...

Do you guys know what Adjustable Bilstein shocks to do all the way around to level it out? I have the 1/2 toytec spacer in the front now but (correct me if I'm wrong) if i get the bilstein adjustables i don't need the spacer? correct? Which ones do I put in the front and which ones do I get for the rear?
 
Only the front's are adjustable. They have settings (numbers are off the top of my head, may be slightly off) at 0", .85", 1.75", and 2.5" lift. The rears technically shouldn't provide any lift, but I want to say I've heard of some people getting a small amount (less than .5"). You want the 5100's, best place I know of is Wheeler's Off Road. Just click through their menu and it'll show you what you need.

Next question, is insurance footing the bill for this? If so, why not go big? It may be overkill, but I'd try to get a set of coilovers out of the deal. A new XREAS system is over $1000 if I remember correctly. You can get a basic coilover kit for cheaper than that, and depending on how much over that maybe even a very good kit. Insurance is paying for everything. Guy said If i want to swap the suspension he will give me an allowance. I really like the Radflo you linked me too..

So they should level the Runner out and provide 2" all around? Do you know anyone running this setup? Pics etc?
 
I don't know of anyone off the top of my head. The fronts are adjustable, you can have them set at any height you desire up to 3 inches. I can't tell you much on specific kits. you will want to do some searching on those and other brands.

The girlfriend is in the insurance industry, and they are never out to get you or screw you, the research done here was exactly what they need to offer you more money.

A little off-topic, if you can demonstrated (document) improvements you have made, etc., they can pay you back for them. (Exception: some insurance companies have a $1k cap for accessories.)

Anyway, to reiterate the point, they all have a system that spits out a value based on many factors. If you can demonstrate that the number is low, they are usually more than happy to write you a bigger check. They just need to be able to justify it to their internal auditors.
