Thinking about moving on from my 2008 to a 2015

To me I can fit more in the back because the side windows don't slant inwards, it's more square if that makes sense. The front is more spacious as well, my head no longer rubs the top.

The 5th gen probably feels bigger because the windshield is more upright. The wheel base is the same on both models. Other than the 5th gen being about 1.5 inches wider all other external dimensions are almost identical including the height. When packing for long trips I can not say I get more in the 5th gen than I did my old 4th gen.

While I don't disagree with dimensions, I "feels" substantially bigger inside to me. When I sit in the 05 then in the 15, everything seems bigger and wider.

I'm on day 6 of my new 2015 TEP coming off of a 2008 Sport.....

I already miss:
- Climate control
- Tight turning radius (I haven't looked at the spec, yet my 2008 had a MUCH MUCH tighter turn. Now I feel like Austin Powers pulling into a parking spot)
- Sports car cockpit (i.e. windshield angle)
- Position of center console
- Locking gas cover
- Rear cargo enclosed compartment for tools, jump cables, rope, etc
- Fuel readings near clock

What I gained:
- More solid ride
- More rear passenger room with reclineable rear seats
- More front seat adjustments...appear the rails slide back further to accommodate a taller driver
- Entune system with navigation
- Manual 4-wheel
- AC power outlet

I could go on-on....I REALLY liked my 2008 Sport, but it had 125,000 miles and the seals needed replacement, so I figured it was time to put the money into a new one.

If my memory is correct, most if not all of the frame on the 5th gens is identical to the 4th. 5th gen feels bigger, but thats just what ive seen from the outside. the 3rd row definitely feels like an afterthought to put it mildly. Really only suitable for children (so may work great for you). Getting in an out of the rear seats is already difficult due to the way the side quarter glass is shaped so I would imagine it would be even harder to get out of the third row. I can see why you would want another 4Runner especially since you already have a Highlander in the family but I just can't see them being practical with the 3rd row.

Long story short, unless you're only going to use it in a pinch, I would look at purchasing something else....

Putting 4 children in the 4Runer is a no go. Keep what you have, use it to take the older children on adventures. Purchase a minivan so you don't lose your mind trying to take everyone to dinner. No shame in purchasing the right tool for the job.

I'm 50/50 right now. Leaning towards keeping my 08 and waiting a year to see if any info on the 6th gem comes out and buying a 5th or 6th next fall.
It's tough. The 5th gen is such a nice vehicle, but my 4th Is like a rock and has no problems and its nice not having a payment. We can use my wife's highlander as the family vehicle I just despise driving it. Thanks for the insight I will let you all know what I decide
