Thinking about selling my 4Runner.

I have decided to keep the runner. I love it to much, i suppose my decision to post this was based more on the fact that i sometimes miss the agility of a smaller car as opposed to a top heavy suv. I was using a bit of microscopic vision when posting this i suppose...

Thanks for all the replies guys. Much appreciated.

My family owns an 05 Toyota Rav4. Although it has the 2nd highest ratio of women drivers to men drivers (wikipedia) to any other vehicle, I love driving it when I can. It's a 4 cyl, but it has more pep than my 3.4 4runner. It gets 26 mpg, and we tow 2 snowmobiles with it every winter.

Just some input in case you change your mind, but want to stay with Toyota. I'm a loyal 4runner owner myself...

Another possibility is to spend the $5K on a new Turbo Diesel installed in the 4 Runner.
Then you have a 4 Runner with a brand new engine and I assume would get well over 25+ MPG with tons of torque and last forever.

This has been debunked over several different threads.

What has?

The turbo diesel should get better mileage, even my old 7.3L 8cyl Ford diesel 3/4ton 4x4 that I had back in the 90's got over 20mpg and that truck was gigantic compared to a 4 runner.

Most diesels are known for reliability, should get at least 300K out of it.
I know the diesel has tons of torque.

So what exactly has been "debunked"?

There have been several threads on the topic of a diesel swap in the last month alone. I don't want to hijack this thread any further other than to say, go check out the discussion yourself.

There seemed to be a common theme from members:
1) negatives outweighed the positives by far
2) 25MPG is a dream because of aerodynamics.

I was just doing that, just put in "Turbo Diesel" and everything I read looked pretty good but there were a ton of threads though only read the first full page of threads and there were at least 10 pages

If 25mpg is a dream with a turbo diesel then I assume those claiming 22+ mpg with the standard 3.4 must also be in a dream land. Certainly is to me because I cant get over about 18-19 Hwy downhill with a tailwind.

There certainly wasn't anything aerodynamic about a friend of mines old VW Rabbit diesel truck he had back in the late 70's and he got 45mpg.
My Gigantic Ford F250 3/4 ton 4X4 with a camper shell on the back was as aerodynamic as a brick with a parachute and it got between 16-19 around town and 20-22 hwy and probably weighed a ton more than my 4Runner.

Most of the Hilux Surf 4Runners I have seen say they get between 24-30mpg.

The cost of the new engine and I guess you have to do the trans also is supposed to be somewhere around $7000 I understand for everything.
